The backbone of any feudal economy. They are illiterate, they smell funny, they toil all day in the mud growing crops on small plots of land, they live in cramped little shacks made of sticks and horse crap and were generally treated like crap by their superiors. Thus was life before the Industrial Revolution for 80% of the population and most of your ancestors. Now they toil all day in factories instead. Isn't progress wonderful?
