A name used to describe random dungeon type video game RPGs, often using ASCII-like graphics. The name spawns from the original Rogue.

Another feature is randomly generated world/dungeons. Roguelikes typically delete the savefile after character death. The chances of winning roguelikes are slim and often require multiple playthroughs to learn tricks to surviving the hazards of the games.


Some notable Roguelikes:

Arguably the most balanced traditional roguelike. Low on humor, except for the jokey Tourist class, and almost everyone starts with a pet. Depth is insane, almost everything is possible.
Roguelike with a stronger plot element, allegedly. Creator is a royal prick.
  • Castle of the Winds
Old-skool roguelike made in the glory days of shareware. Has a tileset.
Severely fun roguelike, occasionally quite imbalanced, with an insane set of classes, races, and gods. Also has one of the most diverse dungeon environments.
Crawl with a kickass tileset, an improved mouse-optional interface, more classes, more races, more gods, and more of generally everything. /tg/'s preferred roguelike.
