The Imperial Guard is the main military branch of the Imperium of man. It composed of normal humans, some as conscripts and some in volontary service. Those are the man and woman who are the first defense line aginst enemies of the empire like Tyranids or the Tau. The Guard is a vast army with roughly one billion soldiers in the whole Imperium. Their standart weapons are plasma based assault rifles, sniper rifles and other variants. Possibly it's most renowned piece of equipment is the Lemann Russ, the Guards most versatile Tank with it's heavy armour and broad range of possible weapons, it is very useful in almost any situation. The officers of the Guard are renowned as some of the best military strategists in the entire Galaxy. They are run through a strict programm before beeing selected and thus know how to battle an enemy with as few losses as possible. | |||
From time to time the Guard participates in a exchange programm for military officers with the Bright Eldar to broaden the experience of those officers. The Guard also performs joint operations with Orks and Bright Eldar to battle common enemies. Best known are their joint battles aginst the hive fleet of the tyranids, in which they used each others strengths to gain an advantage over the Tyranids. | |||

Even while the Imperium of the Brighthammer Universe is bigger then the Warhammer universe and thus has more people, the Imperial Guard in Brighthammer is actually smaller then it's counterpart, as in 10.000 Years of peace there never was a real need to develop it's size to that of the Warhammer universe. | |||
