Khatep the Liche Lord is a Tomb King special character introduced in 8th Edition of Warhammer Fantasy.

History

Khatep is a Skelly-Pope of Mortuarity Cult, the main religious organization of Nehekhara. Unlike other Tomb Kings, who were normal not-Egyptians buried in pyramids and later awaken by Nagash's dickery, Khatep was never truly dead. In fact, he is quite possibly the oldest continuously living Nehekharan, to the point it's not implausible he served Settra the Imperishable himself. You see, back in ye olde days Khatep discovered the spells that allowed Liche Priests to bind their souls to their bodies even after their death. And of course, the body still decomposes after a while, effectively turning Mortuarity Cult members into walking skeletons.

No one really knows what was Khatep doing for millenia (even during several wars with Nagash). After all of Nehekharans turned undead and started (re)killing each other, however, Khatep got a bright idea to awake Settra and force him to clean up this mess. Of course, it backfired, as immediately after restoring order Settra became quite displeased with his new look, and banished Grand Hierophant until he fixes everything.

Up to this day Khatep wanders around the Land of the Dead searching for scrolls and relics of power to make Nehekhara great again. He occasionally shows up to save fellow Nehekharans from being defeated, only to disappear in the desert once again.
