Khatep the Liche Lord is a Tomb King special character introduced in 8th Edition of Warhammer Fantasy.
History
Khatep is a Skelly-Pope of the Mortuary Cult, the main religious organization of Nehekhara. Unlike other Tomb Kings, who were normal not-Egyptians buried in pyramids and later awaken by Nagash's dickery, Khatep was never truly dead. In fact, he is quite possibly the oldest continuously living human in the Warhammer world. He's old enough that he served Settra the Imperishable himself when the latter was still mortal.
Back in ye olde days, he was one of the priests Settra sent on a mission to discover immorality so Settra himself would never die. During this search, Khatep discovered the spells that allowed Liche Priests to bind their souls to their bodies even after their death. And of course, the body still decomposes after a while, effectively turning Mortuary Cult members into walking skeletons. On Settra's deathbed, Khatep was the one who promised they'd be able to bring him back in an immortal, immaculate gold body, after which he'd have an everlasting reign in Nehekhara reborn as a paradise.
No one really knows what Khatep did during the millennia after Settra's death (even during several wars with Nagash). After all of Nehekharans turned undead and started (re)killing each other, Khatep arrived in Khemri with the bright idea to awake Settra, considering him the only one who could clean up the mess. Of course, it backfired, as immediately after restoring order Settra summoned Khatep and the other priests for a meeting, being quite displeased with everyone's new looks and the state of the kingdom. He banished Grand Hierophant Khatep on pain of (re)death until he delivers what he promised.
Up to this day Khatep wanders around the Land of the Dead searching for scrolls and relics of power to make Nehekhara great again. He occasionally shows up to save fellow Nehekharans from being defeated, only to disappear in the desert once again.
