The Haeltoth Starguard were a formation in the Imperial Army.

Background

Lying in the south-east of the Segmentum Solar, the Haeltoth System had the peculiar distinction of approaching the Imperium for its annexation. Ancient prophecy had anticipated the coming of the Herald of the Emperor, and if the priests had hoped for a more grand figure than Rogue Trader Militant Helga Olafsdottir, they could not dispute that she was the one that their forefathers had awaited.

Most of the inhabitants of the Haeltoth System dwell on great orbital stations. Once these served to process the mineral bounty of Haeltoth-2 and Haeltoth-4, but the machines that had mined these worlds turned upon their masters and had to be fought off at great cost. The stations survived, but without fresh mineral imports the great factories stood idle, or were re-purposed into hydroponic farms to feed their populations.

Organisation

The Starguard are relatively few in number and frequently deploy as part of mixed regiments to make use of their strengths and cover their weaknesses. When fighting alongside other Imperial Armymen, Starguards are most often given the role of heavy weapons teams.

The mellow temperament of Haeltoth officers makes them particularly well-suited to leading or serving as liasons to Abhumans. This has led to a certain amount of "cross-pollination" between the Starguard and the Horde of the Hated.

Doctrine

Centuries of living elbow-to-elbow aboard the cramped stations of the Healtoth system has bred patience and cooperation into the inhabitants. They are not natural warriors, but they go to war willingly in the name of the Emperor.

To make up for their lack of aggression, the Starguard focus on precision drilling and combined fire.

Wargear

Laser and plasma weapons are prominent. The advanced manufacturing facilities of the Haeltoth stations ensure that their warriors are outfitted with sleek powered armour, greatly increasing the carrying capacity of an individual soldier.

Notable Regiments

  • 191st Starguard, "Valaya" - the 191st were the first auxilia to land at Valaya Station during the Core Worlds Campaign. Though the heavy armour of the defenders was near-proof against many Imperial weapons, the Starguard's energy rifles took a bitter toll. In recognition of their valour and marksmanship, the 191st were honoured with the name "Valaya" by Darius Cyaxares himself.
