Mal's first message

hello!

my name is malachi ortega and i pilot beta unit 00. we have fought some nacaals and an angel too! the first nacaal was easy and only two of us had to work at beating it, but then the second one was harder and we kept shooting it and it wouldn't die so chris had to shoot some lightning that came out of it back at the thing. then we fought an angel, it was like a big whale. it nearly bit my feet off!

my hobbies include reading and being with my friends. i am a nerd in some ways, i like to read about the angels and stuff, but i am also quite social. today is a bit sad for me though, asuka from tokyo is leaving, she has been here for quite a long time but her eva was fixed. they stopped here to pick up the core from the second nacaal which it dropped without breaking because the rest of it was made of jelly and it landed on the beach.

for tips for a new pilot: i am quite new so i can't help much! however i would say that trying too hard is a bad thing. i find piloting evas much better if you work with the eva at a constant pace with it, rather than trying to ride it like a bike or something.

Aloha Mal!

My name is Hiika Brace. I'm named after Pele's sister Hi'iaka (you say it like He-ee-ah-ka) from Hawaiian mythology. Your name sounds like it's named after something cool too.

I'm the pilot of Ex Unit 01 in Hawaii, we were the test units, but now we have Nacall attacking us too! We fought three already. The First two Nacaal attacked together, they looked like two big ugly dogs! When Greg (he's from Ireland and is really good with guns) shot the first one it went KA-BOOM! I stabbed the second one in the core and it didn't explode though. The next Nacall was this big hydra thing. It tried to pull Donny (he was in the Marines, he's cool!) under the water but I pulled it out with my AT field, I didn't know I could do that! Each time we hit it, it grew another head and core, Eventually it grew too many heads and exploded again! It must be cool being able to get a whole core intact, ours usual go KA-BOOM!

You fought a REAL Angel! That's cool, I wish I could fight an Angel. I've been training all my life to fight angels so I was real excited when the first attack happened, but Dr Brace says it's not a real Angel. But it's cool, I'll fight all the monsters that attack earth!

NEPTUNE says another one is going to attack in a few weeks. I can't wait! Dr Brace showed us a video of it making some UN battleships disappear! I bet Maia (that's our operations director, she's got one eye and talks funny!) will come up with some cool trick so we can fight it!

i must first say that i am a bit jealous! none of ours have really done much exploding. there was one but it wasnt very interesting.

we fought a kind of easy nacaal a while ago. it had big legs and a wierd bird head and it shot ice at us. i don't think any of our evas even took damage though. i swam under the ice and got its leg! it was really cool. sonya and chris went kind of crazy when they saw it though! I don't see whats to be scared of. i mean its big and stuff but what can it do to you even? ice doesnt hurt.

anyway how did your battle go? i am a bit late in answering this message so i think you will have fought it. you should come over when theres a quiet bit. bring your evas, i want to see them! on that subject i want to see if i can visit tokyo soon. my japanese isnt very good though, but it will be fun to try! their evas are kind of neater than most of ours.

We haven't fought that Nacall just yet, we still have 48 hours before it hits land. NEPTUNE located it TWO MONTHS AGO but we've just been letting the Pacific fleet tail it the whole time. I wanted to engage at sea, but the other pilots said something about us not being properly equipped for marine engagements. (probably just afraid of watter, figures.) By the time you get this the battle will probably be over though. Keep wishing me luck!

You have people who always freak out too? It's crazy isn't it! I don't understand why people get so worked up about this kind of thing. Running away won't make anything better. In the last briefing the kid from japan actually suggested we EVACUATE and let the monsters take Hawaii! What the fuck! I hate him Soooooo Much!

If japan is anything like him, I wouldn't go there. You should come to Hawaii instead, I'd love to meet you.

wow that must be annoying. we don't usually find out until its right nearby or something. i don't think we have even seen it in pictures before we were thrown into a fight! it doesnt really matter, they don't usually give us much trouble.

what sort of stuff do the other pilots freak out about? and how well do you get on with the other pilots? i get on quite well with chris, shes really small but cool. i had an argument with liz recently but ive known her forever so its kind of different, were cool now. sonya is never around much, i think she has other friends so we don't talk too much. we all live in the same house though which is kind of odd i guess but asuka says she lives with a pilot too so i don't know what to think. do you?

also why would you evacuate? whats the point in having a base if you evacuate it when the thing you built the base against actually comes? that doesnt even make any sense.

but i will come to hawaii soon if i am allowed! predictions and stuff are hard but i will try and come after the next nacaal comes because theres normally a big gap between them. i don't know how long it will be until the next one though.

also i cant find a picture thats much good. there is a file photo but i look silly.

Sorry this took so long! Mail got disrupted by the Nacaal attack. We should probably stop using snail maill. My Email address is HBrace@Hawaii.edu I also have xoxLittleBrownGirlxox@yahoo.com but my sister uses that, and firstchild@hawaii.NERV but thats supposed to be for official use only.

We had a great plan to kill this Nacaal but Donny started acting funny and just sorta froze up, It wasn't it wasn't for Saito we would have lost! He held his ground and helped me neutralize the field (which was suposed to be Donny's job, idiot!) He also saved me from the nacaal's big disappearing attack. I though he was dumb but he's getting much better. I wounder if I should go easy on him now? He's still the new kid.

No fair about not sending a pic! My pic is dumb too, I need to stop holding my mouth open like that when I smile, I look like an idiot showing everyone my mouth, and it's not like I can't check myself to see if I accidentally bit my tongue.

Well It Is Good The Battle Went Well, I Am Glad You Are Still Alive, Not That I Thought It Would Go Badly. It Is Annoying When Other Pilots Stop Doing It Properly And Panic Though. I Can See Why They Would Do It But It Puts Us All In Danger So It Is Just Silly Really. Did You Get Hit At All?

I Think The Airport For Our Evas Has Been Planned Properly Now So Hopefully We Will Be Able To Come And Help And Stuff Soon Instead Of Waiting Around Here. Not That You Seem To Need Help!

I took a beam to the chest, so did Gregory. Don also lost a limb when the thing exploded on us. The Nacaal kept trying to shoot me but I only got hit once and i was okay. The science team was freaking out about the LCL overheating but I was fine. Dr Brace says it was attacking me because I was the one standing in it's path, the Nacall are silly like that.

Saito is from japan, the UN brought him here and he's always trying to escape from school, it's funny. I already told you about Greg and Don, They trained here but they got stationed at SanDeago until the first attack. They had to fly back here in a hurry when the Nacaal started attacking.

You should come here too, and bring a Nacaal core when you do, ours keep exploding! I'll show you my Hula Dance and give you a tour of the island!

By the way, Dr Mason says you type funny, you are only suposed to capitalize names and the beginnings of sentiences.

Okay I got Chris to help me with the formatting and stuff on this email. I think I will do better now!

We have a Nacaal core in storage somewhere. The first one got shipped to the US but we got to keep the second one for some reason. I haven't seen it since the battle. Were the Evas okay in yours? I guess nobody got hurt because otherwise you would probably have mentioned it already.

It seems kind of weird the pilot shuffling they are doing within Nerv. You would think that they could have left Saito in Japan which would have meant that Asuka could have stayed closer to home instead of going all the way around the world. I don't know, the whole organisation seems silly. Everything is secrets. I've got to look at some of Karla's documents and stuff sometimes but it's either all budgets and boring stuff like that or it's just crap. Maybe it's code or something?

Also I think this might be a kind of odd question but what does your Eva look like? I kind of connect people to them in my head and it'd be cool if I could see yours.

Also ask a scientist about group synchronisation! It's really cool.

Last week, Maia got a DOG! It's name is Zwei, and it's like really smart and stuff, can even use a computer to talk! It's SOOO Cool, I wish Saito's dumb cat could talk, but all it does is sleep, just like Saito. For all the cool stuff he does in his Eva, he's really boring normally.

Maia says the machine only works on Zwei because the cat doesn't have the right implants. All it does is sleep anyways, I doubt it would say anything cool, not like Zwei, he's funny, says Cunt a lot.

Chris said that I shouldent talk to you because it will distract your from your mission or something, and that something important happened. I hope i'm not distracting you from important business. I know how hard it is to pilot an Eva.

Last night Saito tried to run away! He stabed himself in the hand, but we took him to the hospital before he could escape. Now me and Maia have to move into the same dorm as the guys so we can keep an eye on him in case he escapes. He's so stupid sometimes.

Hey! It's been a while, how come you haven't sent another E-Mail? You been busy with top secret stuff? We had the ArizonaII come into port this month, It's a REALLY Big battleship that the UN thinks can fight off the angels by itself. I don't know how it's gonna do without an AT field, but the UN says it's Positron cannons can penetrate those. Might be cool for backup but I don't think it could do the job by itself. Those UN guys should really do more co-operation instead of being jerks.

Last week A bunch of terrorists attacked the school and tried to catch us pilots! Maia saved me but Don and Greg fought off the Leader! Just when they were about to get him, he SHOT HIMSELF! I hope he's okay. I don't understand why he'd do that, Isn't the point to shoot other people?

I also have good news! We are coming to visit you guys next week! Dr Brace said she knows your mom from way back and were coming over! I'll get to meet You and Chris! I'm so excited!

Wow that will be cool. Karla left earlier, so you won't get to meet her unfortunately. There is this other guy doing her job but everyone has told me not to talk to him and he's kind of weird anyway. You probably don't want to meet him.

Saito I think sent me a video of that happening but Liz told me not to open the file so I didn't. I am quite glad now! It sounds kind of horrible, but also kind of cool in a scary way. I would like to have been there for that big ship though, that sounds cool. I looked up what a positron cannon was on the internet but it was kind of hard and I was busy anyway.

I forgot to check my email for a while because I was doing other stuff and didn't think you really cared. But this is good! Not much has happened since the last email apart from Dr Weiss coming I think. Boring stuff might have but I think it is probably better to talk about stupid things like that in-person, telling people about what you had to eat on the internet is silly.

Who else is coming besides you and Dr Brace? All the pilots or just some of them? It'll be fun anyway.
