Useful, but has nothing to do with the whole concept the page discusses.

When you only have a handful of soldiers on the table, it's easier to make them unique in both looks and background. Furthermore, the official game allows you to make three models "specialists", who have extra abilities alongside their normal loadout, which can be an endless source of Your Dudes-like inspiration for modelling and story-writing. Heralds of Ruin also has their own Kill Team game, which tends to become something akin to Mordheim or Necromunda when playing Campaign. It even allows for personal Hero characters!

So in this one, it provides players with the capability to create a custom Land Raider for use in Open Play. Must have either the Adeptus Astartes or Heretic Astartes keywords. Unless This Guy lets you use it with the Inquisition, Adepta Sororitas, or any justifiable Imperium keyword. They each have a transport capacity (TC), determined by the weapons you choose. At most, it will have a TC of 16 (10 if Chaos). It is possible to reduce the TC to 0, where it loses the Transport keyword. Not the greatest thing, but its a start.

Custom Characters.
Okay, so this is an interesting one.

Ingredients:
*Chapter Approved 2018
*2 Dice
**Optional
*Non-named Character datasheet of your choice
*Pen
*A notepad
*An appropriate model

Recipe:

*First, you need to pick the character you wish to create.
**For this example, let's take a Daemonhost summoned via the Malus Codicium.
***Because those Cherubael conversions deserve rules that do the character more than justice. Let's break him a tad.
*Now, you choose; Hero, Mighty Hero or Legendary Hero.
**This determines how many rolls, or picks, you get on the tables. 4, 6, and 8 rolls, respectively.
**For this example, we're going with the Hero option.
*There are 4 tables to pick from
**One is exclusively for psykers. For this example, we will ignore that table.
**For this example, we will choose one thing from each of these three remaining tables, and then use the fourth on whatever seems appropriate.
*When we get to the last pick of this example, these are the recommended effects from the 3 accessible tables:
**Blademaster
***Characteristic table
***Increases WS by 1.
***Gives our boy Cherubael a WS2+ within 6" of Eisenhorn, or a WS3+ otherwise.
**Artificer Weapon
***Weapon Table
***Increases Damage Characteristic of 1 weapon by 1.
***Use that on his Warp Grasp so it's better than the Power Sword analogue it currently is.
**Terrifying
***3" -1 Leadership bubble to enemy units.
***Cherubael would probably be very terrifying if you met him.
*This leaves us with 1 pick left.
**With this, I'd recommend Divine Protection, to give him a 4++ invuln.

And that, is a quick run through of the character creation, using an example to try and improve upon the Cherubael rules we currently have. As he isn't given the actual name Cherubael in Eisenhorn's rules, Cherubael does not count as a named character.

Looted Wagons.
Nuff said. No? Okay then.

Karts
*Transports 10 Flash Gitz or <Clan> Infantry models.
*5 Power
*12" move in the first bracket
**Fairly standard.
*Tough lil bugger
*All weapon options are Assault
**Up to 3 Big Shootas and 6 Shootas
***Starts off with 1 Big Shoota
***Dakka.
***Has the rule
*BS5+ in the first bracket
*Little fairly fast moving dakka here.
*Unlike 2017's LoW Land Raider, transport capacity doesn't fall with more weapons
*Big Red Button
**D3
**Once Per Game, in shooting phase
**Either:
***Instantly move 6" further
****Can't Disembark afterwards. It's the shooting phase after all.
***+1 strength ranged weapons
****S6 Big Shootas!
***Heal D3 wounds.

Wagons
No, not the kind in the Codex.

*11 power
*Heavy Support
*Weapon Options:
**Assault:
***Big Shoota
****Starts with one of these
***Rokkit Launcha
***Skorcha
***Stikkbomb Launcha
**Heavy:
***Killkannon
***Lobba
***Zzap Gun
*Ignores penalty for moving + shooting Heavy weapons
**10" move in the first Bracket
*Shoot 'Em Again
**Can fire Lobba or Killkannon twice if it moved under half its current move characteristic, or didn't move at all
**Ain't moving often.
*BS5+ in the first Bracket
*Big Red Button, but with a twist
**6" move, but can't use Shoot 'Em Again
**+1 Strength.
***Counts towards Zzap Gun's strength roll
**Same D3 heal

====Battle Fortress===

They recommend you convert this beast, using a Baneblade. An Emperor-blessed-but-soon-to-be-damned Baneblade! Apologies, but someone else can write up a summary for this Lord of War. This beast of a war machine is a jack-of-all-trades and master of all of them.

One day a bunch of anons were complaining about the status quo and asking why GeeDubs wasn't Advancing the Storyline. This article follows another anon's legendary answer explaining what the other anons hadn't understood the storyline was even for and why 40k was awesome.

> It just seems like there's never any lasting damage done when shit hits the fan. Yeah, that one planet in Ultramar got OM NOM NOMMED by the 'Nids, but we don't have a stake in anyone who died during the Wars.

Here is what 40K is about. Are you ready? Write this down, because it is important.

40K is about your own group of soldiers.

I don't care what faction you play or what lists you use. I don't care if you're an existing unit or you make up your own. 40k is about your dudes. It is about YOUR GUYS.

Let me tell you a story about one Erasmus Tycho:

Erasmus Tycho was a captain in an early after-action report in White Dwarf. At one point he got KOed by a Weirdboy's psychic blast. This was fluffed as him being severely injured, and that affected his characterization and what would become of him. In-game events were strung together and then logically connected to a potential story - an EMERGENT story based on the guided events of the gameplay.

Do you see what that is? THAT IS AN EVOLVING STORY. THAT IS THE KIND OF THING YOU CAN DO WITH YOUR GUYS. You can give your dudes names and grow attached to them in the same way that you can with X-COM or Final Fantasy Tactics or any other game where you have generic dudes.

Hell, if you played Chaos Gate, that was basically the game! The last time someone played it for /tg/, there was a dude named APEMANTUS who was badass (based on in-game events), was killed (as an in-game event), and was brought back as a dreadnought (a stretch of the imagination that was connected to in-game events).

That's the kind of stuff 40k should be about. Evolving stories based on what you did, and how a battle went. It's what Necromunda does, it's what Mordheim does, and it's what every strategy game ought to do.

Don't worry about "the fluff". The fluff is background material. It exists to provide context for your own story. Worrying about fluff is like worrying about Drizzt and Elminster in the Forgotten Realms - it shouldn't be about them, it should be about your party. The same thing applies to 40k. Become the change you want. Just as planned.
