Warhammer Legends is GW's way of supporting your favourite Special Character without having to actually put them in the next book. This mainly takes the edge off of ruining characters or units each update. But at the same time, it relegates them to the back corner. So, if you wanted to run Vlad von Carstein in AoS, you can. But if you want to see a real update for Vlad von Carstein? Too bad. Many choices for the initial Legends category are shocking and give us some in-sight as to what GW is thinking about, strangely.

The Good

  • Bretonnian players can field their special characters now in AoS.
  • Tomb King's player can field their named character as well.
  • Same with the Empire.
  • Hell, the same with (almost) every faction.
  • You won't have to worry about Units or Characters being completely squatted.
  • Keywords for the old factions are in.

The Bad

  • For the Fantasy armies that were squatted, there is reference to their units, but nothing in regards to rules.
  • 40k players now have to dismount their HQ choices, as none of them can use any personal transportation.
  • Legion of the Damned are now in the Legends category.
  • Fantasy models do not have point values.

The Ugly

Games Workshop has made it a point, that anything in the "Legends," category, isn't technically allowed in Matched Play. Meaning your opponent can simply say: "No Legends," and there goes your White Scars list. They have even left it up to event organizers whether to allow Legends or not. It is also apparent that GW wants to distance themselves from the 40k 7th Edition Meta by getting rid of everyones mounted HQ choices.
