The Obstinate Marines are a /tg/ created fan chapter, speculating what would happen if you turned the obsessive qualities of the Space Marines up beyond the limit.
Space Marines are known to be incredibly durable, resolute, and fearless. The Obstinate Marines are all of these qualities turned up to eleven. They are absolutely unstoppable marines in heavy, wedge shaped armor, marching endlessly to their goal - be it through walls, heretics, gods, or monsters. They don't care what stands in their way - and pay no notice to anything that doesn't directly relate to their goal or impede their progress. They would calmly stride through an entire army of chaos cultists, not paying attention to any but those with weapons heavy enough to harm them - and then only taking the time to line up a single careful shot of the Bolter.
The Obstinate Marines have an a designated title as the "Partinax Astartes", but have never officially adopted a name. They consider themselves too busy to bother with a name, instead going by the designation, "Chapter 1298". Unofficially, other marine chapters call them the Obstinate Marines, because they are unnegotiably and relentlessly stubborn in the pursuit of any goal - to an extent that amazes even other astartes. As another unofficial title, they call themselves "The Emperor's Juggernauts", IF you can get them to speak at all.
The Obstinate Marines have a unique method of war. Their entire existence is dedicated to attack. Lighter and faster troops and vehicles arrive first, sowing destruction and confusion, pushing past the front line into the enemy rear to continue raiding and marking resources caches. While the enemy scrambles to deal with the sudden overrun, the main forces appears on the horizon as a massive cloud of dust that blots out the sun. Battle brothers, terminators, dreadnaughts and heavy armor units slam into the disorganized front like a tidal wave hitting a marina. Casualties are ignored, those who run out of ammo simply abandon weapons on the spot and grab anything they can to continue their march. As this wave of death rolls over the enemy, the massive titan forges and rolling factories the size of small cities appear. These are tended by teeming multitudes of servitors and tech marines, who salvage fallen soldiers, vehicles, resources, raw ores are harvested from the bleeding earth by massive mining servitor units the size of warehouses. Noxious fumes from gargantuan war forges choke and cloud the skies as a five mile wide tide of mobile industry consumes all in it's path. They take weeks to pass, from the first scout to the last scrap-servitor, and all that is left in their wake is scorched, blasted dirt that has been churned into a bog slickened by the blood of those foolish enough to try and stop their march.
In their entire long history, speculated to reach back all the way to the great crusade, the Obstinate Marines have never stopped moving. This philosophy is reflected in their ways of war.
Although universally heavily armored, the Obstinate Marines do not stop for maintainence. They do not, in fact, ever stop for any reason. Instead, the techmarines attach new armor to them as they move to their next objective. The recruitment for a new marine is handled in much the same way.
They continue to march forward. The only way to avoid getting crushed is to either move out of their way - or a marine that takes notice of a hopeful recruit give them permission to march ahead of the company. March long enough, and eventually the techpriests will begin the initiation rites. Fail to march, and the aspirant is trampled by the inexorable march. The trial itself is never stopping, never sleeping. The geneseed is administered on the march. Learning their skills is done by being given objectives and completing them in the line of fire. Scouts are given an eternal objective - scout ahead of the line of march. Provide information to command so it can determine objectives. Due to a flaw in the gene-seed, they become exceedingly single minded, and in fact cannot sleep or stop any longer. Thus, a new marine is trained. As time goes on, more and more armor will be bolted onto him. He will become a tactical marine, and slow his march due to the extra burden of weight so that he falls in with the great wedge - the line of march for the chapter. As years pass, he has armor added so that he becomes a terminator. When he falls, he becomes a dreadnought. When the dreadnought falls, it becomes a vehicle; part of the great convoy that keeps their eternal crusade striding forward. When the vehicles fall, the scrap is added to the fortress monastery as extra armor. The body of the marine is stuffed into a macrocannon shell and shot into space, never to stop. Once begun, the stride continues forever.
The Fortress Monastery of the Partinax Astartes is an insane amalgam of many parts called, "The Pertinacious". It was originally a titan, but over time four other titans and several Leviathans were added to it as "additional armor" by chapter techmarines. On its unending march, it rammed into a vast metallic asteroid. Rather than stopping, the chapter simply added the asteroid to the armor of the ship. As Chapter vehicles are destroyed, they too are bolted onto the vast Fortress Monastery. It continues, completely unstoppable.
The loyalty of the Obstinate Marines is to the Great Crusade. When the Horus Heresy occurred they took no note - they were too busy conquering new worlds to bother with Chaos. Instead the continued on, eventually becoming known as the Partinax Astartes. As such, they do not care about chaos, Heresy, or the concerns of most Astartes. Indeed, some of their members may be hideously mutated under the armor, but no one knows for sure, as they never remove it, and they "don't have time" to bother with worshiping chaos gods. Nurgle in particular has an obsession with them, sending out Plague Marines who continuously plead with them to slow or stop and attempt to kill them. If they have ever taken notice the Obstinate Marines have given no sign, except to trample those that stand in their way and kill those who threaten to halt their advance.
Their equipment is simple, efficient and practical. All is unpainted (as painting is a waste of time), instead remaining in its basic metallic colors. Their armor is distinctively wedge shaped to facilitate their march through doors, walls, vehicles, and Avatars of Khaine. Most Marines have Jump Packs, including the Terminators and even Dreadnoughts. Though the Jump Packs do not allow Dreadnoughts to fly, they do push them forward at greater velocity to allow them to push through any difficult obstacles in their path. They are the only chapter other than the Angry Marines to make widespread use of Power Boots; allowing them to continue the march even through obstacles such as vehicles.
Obstinate Marines do not have exceptionally powerful weaponry, instead utilizing the same Great-Crusade era weaponry utilized by other Space Marines (with the exception of the Power Boots, a later alteration of their power fist technology). Instead, they focus on heavy armor and durability, confident that they cannot be stopped in their goal by anything but the heaviest of enemy weaponry. Their tactical Marines verge on the level of Terminator Armor. Their Terminators are exceptionally well armored, even by the standards of Terminators. Their unique Dreadnoughts are termed "Juggernauts" and are armored as well as most heavy vehicles.
Opposition
Their opposites and self-declared rivals are the " Obsessive Marines "
They take notice and react to EVERYTHING. As a group. You will find the ENTIRE chapter charging after ONE cultist who just, mistakenly, fired his tape&rubber band piece of shit stubber at the Obsessive Marines.
Who missed. Horribly.
But the Obsessive Marines are not ones to simply shoot the man. Only a heretic could birth such a man. They now hunt his mother and entire family. Every friend and relative he ever knew- they devote an entire decade to researching everything about this man. Then a decisive strike occurs. Wiping out everyone he ever knew.
When he knows his entire existence, everyone he knew, everything he cared for is in utter ruin and wiped from history itself. Only then, do the Obsessive Marines destroy him.
All for simply leveling his shitty, harmless gun at them.
Their armor and gear are kept pristine the entire time. They carry spare paint to patch up every scar as soon as they can on equipment. Even drop pods are pulled free and painted anew.
There a long standing rivalry between the Obstinate Marines and the Obsessive Marines.
Long ago the Chapter Master of the Obstinate Marines walked THROUGH the Chapter Master of the Obsessive Marines, who simply wished to discuss a ceremonial exchange of arms.
The Obsessive Marines have spent every second of the hundreds of years that have passed since that day investigating the Obstinate Marines for heresy. Unfortunately, they have a very hard time doing so. As the more they investigate, the more they follow the wake of the Obstinate Marines...as the Obstinates ignore the cultists, the cultists shoot the Obsessive Marines, and a new life-long hunt for everyone those cultists once loved begins... so they can never fully catch up to the suspected heresy of the Obstinate Marines.
