Due to the wars in content on /d/ as well as the unending battle against the NSFW content that tempts many anons to post on the theoretically worksafe /co/, one of Mootwo's first acts was creation of this board.
Being the 4chan equivalent of the /pco/ (Promotions) of other chan-based imageboards, /aco/ is the board for content of a pornographic nature which is western (defined on 4chan as "Not Japanese") in origin.
Within short order the first history of the board was written as first furry porn was banned (to the point of even anthropomorphic animals, eliminating a very large chunk of potential Rule 34 content and unintentionally earning the ire of the /co/mrades it was supposed to appeal to) and dickgirls/futas/shemales/transexuals/traps became a frequently posted category.
Overview
/aco/'s original intent was to become the western counterpart to /h/ (4chan's "normal" hentai board) and the NSFW version of /co/. However, it quickly became settled by numerous exiles from /d/ who had found that Western art was no longer tolerated on /d/ as it had been in the past. (While there was a rule forbidding Western art there, it was rarely if ever enforced until /aco/ was formed.) As a result, /aco/ has accommodated a schizophrenic mix of cast-off /d/eviants, /co/mrades of an adult bent, and people whose fetishes just aren't catered to by Japan enough to have threads elsewhere. So far, these populations have managed to tolerate each other but it's anyone's guess as to how long it will last.
