Why Play Sylvan Kin[edit | edit source]
You're a filthy, feral hippie and vanilla elves are not hardcore enough for you. Or maybe you have an old Wood Elves army and want something similar in look and feel. Sylvan Kin are a Theme List and this means they can take a bunch of units from the Elves list and then add a few of their own. Rules for them are in the Uncharted Empires expansion so you need both rules books to use them (assuming you're including elf units, which you probably will be).
Army Special Rules[edit | edit source]
- Deathroot Arrows: Once per game a unit with these can re-roll up to 3 1s to wound.
- Alignment: Neutral. Elf entries have gone feral and become Neutral as well.
Unit Analysis[edit | edit source]
Heroes[edit | edit source]
Sylvan Kin can struggle to get unlocks so you want to be super sure that your Hero choice is worth it. Most aren't.
- Archwraith: Boskwraith hero. Inspires them (which will never matter). Only useful as a thematic include.
- Forest Warden: Comes with surge (4). Can assist shamblers if you don't want a second Ent.
- Master Hunter: Inspires Forest Guard and Gladestalkers.
- Tree Herder: Treemen. One can become the fantastic WiltDaddy for 40 pts. An auto-include if you're taking Forest shamblers, which you are.
- Elven King: From Master list. Mighty can be a nasty surprise on a SP 9 model. Probably not worth the points.
- Elven Prince: From Master list. Cheap crushing strength but unlocks are better spent elsewhere.
- Elven Archmage: From Master list. Elite spellcasting and more spell options than you can wave a wand at. Handy.
- Army Standard Bearer: From Master list. Inspiring for all is actually hard to come by in elf lists. Useful if you're getting out-shot and don't want to lose your expensive elves. Once the lines meet you're too low defense to make use of this. Shamblers and Hunters (who might actually use inspiring) can get it from Daddy Ent.
- Dragon Kindred Lord: From Master list. Useful strength but you have plenty of options to get mobility without paying flying monster tax.
Infantry[edit | edit source]
- Boskwraiths: Wardancers (or maybe Dryads). Buckets of attacks but squishy. Handy to mop up after the main line has traded blows. Not really fast enough to make good flanking chaff.
- Forest Guard: Same profile as the elf version but you can take a horde.
- Riverguard Treeleapers: Skinks from the trident realms. Have fly and ensnare so maybe handy on a flank.
- Kindred Tallspears: From Master list. 30 Elite attacks in a horde is nice but archers do more damage per point if you can get them a 3rd round of shooting.
Heavy Infantry[edit | edit source]
- Hunters of the Wild: Probably your Dryads. Same profile as the elf version but without the asterisk.
Large Infantry[edit | edit source]
- Forest Shamblers: From Master list. Great in regiments and solid in a horde that provides unlocks in a list desperate for them. Should be combined with the WiltDaddy.
Ranged Infantry[edit | edit source]
- Kindred Archers: From Master list. For all your gunline needs.
- Kindred Gladestalkers: Rangers for when you really want your gunline expensive and closer to the enemy.
Cavalry[edit | edit source]
- The Windborne: Unique. A troop of silverbreeze who use a damaging wind blast instead of arrows. Elite in combat is nice, but that's not what you took them for.
- Wild Gur Panthers: More Battle cat than Cringer. Pathfinder, nimble, SP 10, vicious, and cheap for elves. Nice.
- Silverbreeze Cavalry: Same as the Elf version but Asterisked and you can take Deathroot arrows
- Stormwind Cavalry: From Master list. Asterisk in SK lists. Useful to get some Thunderous Charge. Lack of pathfinder doesn't hurt as much as you'd think as you'll be filling terrain with other units
War Engines[edit | edit source]
- Bolt Thrower: From Master list. It throws bolts and no one makes a model that is anything but fugly. Maybe a use for a Kurnoth Hunter model with a bow.
Unique[edit | edit source]
- Green Lady: Flying, healing bullshit. Not as OP as 2nd.
- El'Rik Nisleen:
