Early in the 30th Millennium the Eldar empire was torn asunder by the birth of the Pleasure God and, while many died, those in the webway escaped the worst of it by hiding in a million hidden paths. A thousand independent realms, ruled by those who wish to carry out deeds seemed irredeemable by many of their brethren, lie in the labyrinth of the webway. To these shadowy satellite cities and pleasure palaces lie the Old houses of the Eldar, each vying to increase their own power and eliminate their enemies. Amidst the constant scheming and backstabbing one thing is constant, the dark kin will find a way to endure and stave off She who Thirsts.
History of the Dark Ones[edit | edit source]
The Dark kin, arisen from the ashes of a dying empire, are a feared race to behold. They themselves live in fear of the dark god Slaanesh, forced to steal life of others to stave off their inevitable death and consumption by her. As the fall took place, those in the webway, the shadier elements of society, became survivors overnight, hidden in their murky realms. By M.30.155 factions started emerging from the chaos as the first alliances were formed and the first wars fought. However, very few records from these times are extant, either destroyed in the turbulence or never written at all. The earliest clear records begin with the Household Wars, which ended mid-M30 with the emergence of the great house El'uriaq. The power gained by Ku'Motsk, the Void King and the port-realm of Uris at this time was a major part of the rise of the Harakien Eldar Empire.
Realms and Satellites[edit | edit source]
Commorragh[edit | edit source]
Commorragh is a war zone, more volatile than any other region. The pocket realm had always been cursed with thousands of un-mapped passages to untold realms, a cause for centuries of conflict. All the houses know, whoever holds Commorragh holds the webway, bacuse it is the crossroads for which many must past through. Commorragh grows with each day, as every clan and house funnels more resources into their holdings, to keep their land from the countless usurpers and native gangs that roam its dark streets. Comorragh is considered neutral ground by the Greater houses and is used as ground for business, treaties, and settlement of disputes. It is wise to note that while Comorragh is the largest city, there are realms that rival it, such as Shaa-Dom, Pandaimon, Kuxles, and Neph'Oxishn.
Uris[edit | edit source]
The realm of Uris is the main trade hub between the various Eldar of the webway and their Harakien kin. Originally the domain of Duke Ae'Rhys of house Nakhar, the realm was taken by the Void King with his marriage to the duke's daughter following a chain of events involving the death of the duke to the machinations of the Uris fleet commander. Uris is a stable realm, but some upstart lords occasionally dare to make war with it. These uprisings are short-lived, however, as the Harakien military's Uris Guard has little to fear from their neighbours. It has been expanded time and time again by the machinations of the Void King, and his dominance of a portion of the webway has allowed for the Galaxy-wide expansion of the Harakien Empire over the millennia.
Notable Characters of the Dark Eldar[edit | edit source]
Vrylin El'uriaq[edit | edit source]
The regal Lord Vrylin of house El'uriaq stands unquestioned lord over the dominion of Shaa-Dom, the city of Sin. The El'uriaq family originated from the greater houses of the former Eldar Empire and, before the fall, set up Shaa-Dom as their personal estates. When the fall began, Saldon El'Uriaq, grandfather of Vrylin, invested a large sum into relocating his manufacturing business into Shaa-Dom. He also encouraged massive refugee influxes to serve him. Saldon was a stout believer in Eldar craftsmanship and held great disdain for xenos, a tradition that has translated Shaa-Dom into a lesser slave consumer. As the Eldar spent more time in the webway, they were touched by the silky whispers of She who Thirsts. Even the most noble of heart was corrupted, and Saldon himself was driven insane.
Vrylin usurped the throne from Saldon in M30.550. When Saldon went mad, he first started killing his own family, leave the El'uraiq stock ravaged. In a spectacular coup, Vylin forced a chaos magi to banish Saldon into the warp. With his stolen title, Vrylin secured his position by brutally subjugating his own populace before leading a half century terror campaign that expanded the El'uriaq domain into Commorragh, securing them a seat among the great houses of Commoragh.
Astrubael Vect[edit | edit source]
Once a lowly slave, the Lord Astrubael Vect became supreme Lord of the Dark realms in M.36, and has ruled the city with an iron fist in the 5 millennia since. However, Vect was not always this way. Only after a ten centuries of backstabbing, plotting, and political machinations, did Vect rise to power, and before those times, served as a lowly slave. This makes him generally irrelevant to the M.30 setting, because, at this point, the Old houses would retain control of the webway for 6 thousand years, only ending with the rise of Vect.
However, his power is limited by a variety of factors. He and the lesser masters of Commorragh are far from the only power in the webway in M41. Expansions to tactical regions by his allies in the Harakien Empire inadvertently led to some sub-realms being rendered too defensible to conquer, under the hands of various powers.
Hine'ar the Chaste[edit | edit source]
Hine’ar the Chaste is a singular presence among the Dark Eldar of the Webway. While other Dark Eldar constantly revel in sadism and gluttony, garbing their thralls in revealing coverings of rags and leather, Hine’ar acts with restraint, holding back much of his fury during raids and dressing his servants in tasteful, modest clothing made of silk and linen as they serve him plain victuals in times of rest. Hine’ar even treats his captives hospitably, serving them fine foodstuffs from his own table and treating them as prized guests. At first glance, it would seem that Hine’ar is not similar to the other denizens of the Webway in the slightest. However, behind this civilized facade is a hungering beast that longs to feast on the flesh and agony of his prisoners, a beast that is intentionally suppressed in order to make the gorging more pleasurable. For on the last day of every month, the beast emerges from its cage. The captives, having atrophied from the rich food and comforting words, are consumed by shock as their generous host and his dutiful servants abandon their pleasant masks and gorge on their flesh and their pain. Once the binge is over, the scraps are swept up, the stains are washed out, and the inner beasts sit sated, waiting raptly for the next chance to feed.
