==Society== The Tesri have a social organization that resembles that of bees and similar hive creatures, to the point that the position they are born in society has an impact on their physiological development and features. The vast majority of the population is composed of females, male specimen are rare and not immediately distinguishable in a crowd, thought they are usually smaller. At the head of every brood is a queen, her first generation descendants belong to what is called the royal family, and from there on the children are born in the higher classes, down until the lowest.
Below the royal family, citizens are ranked by pedigree and merit. Usually, a person born from a high caste will belong to a step just below that of their mother, but this can change according to individual achievements. Managers and administrators belong to the highest class, while minor business owners and most professionals belong to what is defined as the middle class, a step below the higher tiers of society but one above the lowest. The leftover is what makes the majority of the populace: the lower class. White collars, craftsmen, workers, this sort of people; everyday people.
Status in society is also tied to the actual biological pedigree, called "breeding", and the mating bureaucracy serves the purpose of guaranteeing this type of spread; the closer a person is to the queen in terms of generations, the better his breeding. Since the females to males ratio in the Tesri race is 5:1, the mating bureaucracy is a little weird: any female that gains enough status and merit can request permission to start a family, this simply means that her children will automatically be considered part of her own class tier, but it also gives her the privilege of claiming a male.
Given the gender disparity in population numbers, "claiming a male" is actually a way to ensure that the children will have a higher breeding, males are actually shared by more than one (registered) female and assigned based on their own breeding. Exclusive claims, that is when a woman takes a man ''all for herself'', are rare privileges only attainable by the highest castes, or the royal family, thought the permission for this comes straight for the queen, that may decide to veto it depending on the availability of high-breeding males.
Tesri males cannot start a family, they are simply allocated as mating resources depending on their mother's class. Aside from family and reproduction matters, however, there is no restriction to the aims they may have in life. Lower classes have no formal families and their breeding is not tracked, so they can share houses, beds and company with whomever they like, thought they usually organize in informal groups that do resemble ordinary families.
