Campaign:SUPER ROBOT WARS Ω/Raskovia
The planet[edit]
Raskovia is one of the many colonies of the Tesri race. While not really set in the outskirts of their fragmented empire, it is a backwater planet, gaining its sustenance mainly from mining and industry, although it does have a respectable history of mecha building.
Its surface is mostly covered in water, but littered with islands of varying size. There are no real continents, except for a few that are, at best, as large as a small country of Earth; those are usually considered to be the most crowded and thriving places in the whole planet. Most of the mining is, as a result, done underwater, through facilities that are hard and expensive to build, not to mention mildly dangerous.
The highest end of industry is in space; there are several bases and facilities orbiting Raskovia, mostly related to building military spacecrafts, thought there are mecha plants as well, even if it's but a tiny part of the whole business.
The planet has been recently attacked by Dark Force, a known plague in the universe that had, until then, left the Tesri empire almost untouched. Their first assault has been foiled thanks to the brave and ridiculously reckless action of the firstborn princess Ramza, who was however injured in battle, and Dark Force himself took her heart.
Since then, the population's morale has been quite tense. While everyone was happy the menace was averted, it was clear they would be back again, but they received little to no actual support from the rest of the empire, which is unsurprising for their kind. The princess has also left for an unknown destination, looking for means to be prepared for their return.
The Tesri race[edit]
Albeit they share an appearance which is incredibly similar to that of humans, their biology is closer to that of a plant, thought they are still clearly animals.
Society[edit]
The Tesri have a social organization that resembles that of bees and similar hive creatures, to the point that the position they are born in society has an impact on their physiological development and features. The vast majority of the population is composed of females, male specimen are rare and not immediately distinguishable in a crowd, thought they are usually smaller. At the head of every brood is a queen, her first generation descendants belong to what is called the royal family, and from there on the children are born in the higher classes, down until the lowest.
Below the royal family, citizens are ranked by pedigree and merit. Usually, a person born from a high caste will belong to a step just below that of their mother, but this can change according to individual achievements. Managers and administrators belong to the highest class, while minor business owners and most professionals belong to what is defined as the middle class, a step below the higher tiers of society but one above the lowest. The leftover is what makes the majority of the populace: the lower class. White collars, craftsmen, workers, this sort of people; everyday people.
Status in society is also tied to the actual biological pedigree, called "breeding", and the mating bureaucracy serves the purpose of guaranteeing this type of spread; the closer a person is to the queen in terms of generations, the better his breeding. Since the females to males ratio in the Tesri race is 5:1, the mating bureaucracy is a little weird: any female that gains enough status and merit can request permission to start a family, this simply means that her children will automatically be considered part of her own class tier, but it also gives her the privilege of claiming a male.
Given the gender disparity in population numbers, "claiming a male" is actually a way to ensure that the children will have a higher breeding, males are actually shared by more than one (registered) female and assigned based on their own breeding. Exclusive claims, that is when a woman takes a man all for herself, are rare privileges only attainable by the highest castes, or the royal family, thought the permission for this comes straight for the queen, that may decide to veto it depending on the availability of high-breeding males.
Tesri males cannot start a family, they are simply allocated as mating resources depending on their mother's class. Aside from family and reproduction matters, however, there is no restriction to the aims they may have in life. Lower classes have no formal families and their breeding is not tracked, so they can share houses, beds and company with whomever they like, thought they usually organize in informal groups that do resemble ordinary families.
Biology[edit]
Tesri resemble a strange mixture of plants and bugs. They resemble plants in which their blood is greenish, they have high capacity of storing water as well as high demand of it, and while they are able to have nocturnal lifestyles they are almost universally bird eyed. They resemble bugs mostly for their society, but also for the fact that inbreeding does not seem to hurt their gene pool.
Compared to humans, Tesri are about the same size, their bodies are a little more supple and they have better fat storage, meaning they can store more without increasing their size as much. Their hair is thicker, it has nerve endings and can even move; they grow and fall out thought there is a genetic limit to their maximum length, and no Tesri will become bald with age, the only way they can become so is through accident, and it's rather scarring. The better the breeding, the longer and tougher the hair: Ramza is a good example of what are the higher ends for a Tesri in this sense: not only it reaches down to her knees, but she is also capable of fine manipulation and supporting her own weight.
Their noses are usually rather small, but their tongues are usually a bit longer than the average for a human, and feel rough to the touch, like that of a cat. There are no universally common skin, hair and eye colors, it varies mostly on the brood: the colors a queen has are those common among her brood.
Tesri are weird in that their queens are their highest tier of evolution, and the farthest a person is, gene pool speaking, from one, the worse he is off. An average Tesri's lifespan is comparable to that of a human being, while members of the royal family can live for a few centuries; queens, however, have an expected lifespan that averages a millennium, meaning that they outlive most of their children.
Sometimes, the daughter of a queen will turn out to be a queen herself. This is a rare occurrence, and it is very hard to predict since such qualities might manifest even later in an ordinary princess' life: a queen is defined by her innate charisma, uncanny pheromones that make her descendants and citizens better disposed to her cause and orders, as well as psychic powers. However, queens are dominant creatures and having one in court is usually a sticky situation: a queen is the only type of Tesri allowed to be at the head of a nation, and for this reason their mothers are usually not pleased at having a rival in the family.
Young queens usually gather some loyal followers from her mother's brood and set off to start their own nations and royal families; if their mother is old, they may decide to wait and take over once they're deceased, for it is very rare for a queen to retire. Because of this attitude, Tesri broods tend to be self-absorbed, and while queens do keep contacts with each other and meet semi-regularly, they are hardly eager to go out of their way to help each other out.
The Tesri also exhibit occasional psychic powers, mostly telepathy and ESP or related stuff. All queens have them, and members of the royal family are, if not manifest psychics, at least latent ones; the lower the class, the less likely one is to manifest powers or have them in latent form. The chance of being a psychic is, on average, of 1 every 10000 people.
