The Palatine Blades was a specialist warrior-brotherhood of the Emperor's Children Legion during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. They were the more choppy cousins of the legion and they had an absolute hard-on for duels and shit.
Overview[edit]
The Palatine Blades existed outside the rigid formations of the Emperor's Children's military order, consisting of a duelling society whose ranks consisted of those who had gained Fulgrim's favour. At the discretion of the lords of the Legion, members of the Palatine Blades without their own command fought together in battle, serving as a shining example of perfection in war to their Battle-Brothers.
In battle, Palatine Blades fought with Power Swords, Power Lances, Charnabal Sabres, Bolt Pistols, and Grenades of various flavours up to and including, Melta Bombs. Their Prefector can be armed with a Plasma Pistol instead for more blasty power. They wore Artificer Armour because of course they do.
Crunch[edit]
In the tabletop, at a 165pts for five guys, you can buy five more for 28pts per model. A unit of the best Emperor's Children duellists and swordsmen with WS5, 2W, Artificer Armour by default and 2A base with Counter-attack (1), Relentless, Chosen Warriors, and Skill Unmatched. They're all armed with Charnabal Weapons, which they can swap for Power Weapons or Phoenix Pattern Power Weapons for 5 points for either type; in combination with Skill Unmatched, this gives them enough versatility against any type of foe. All of them have BS5 but are armed only with Bolt Pistols and only the Palatine Prefector can buy himself a Plasma Pistol. The whole squad can take a Surgical Augment for 25pts and Melta Bombs for 15pts.
