Not to be confused with the Sisters of Silence Vigilator Cadre.
Legion Vigilators were a type of Space Marine used by the Legiones Astartes during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. They were noted to be quite badass and hardass to boot, even by the standards of the Legion.
Overview
A ruthless sniper armed with either a Stalker Bolter or Nemesis Bolter, Vigilators specialized in scouting and infiltration. Vigilators, however, differ from either conventional Scouts or Recon teams in that they are lone wolves; preferring to operate alone to target and take out high-value enemies. Although they are just as capable to lead a recon detachment, striking at their foes’ most vulnerable points with sabotage and assassination. Due to their operations, the Vigilator wore more modern armour of its time, such as the Mark IV: Maximus Armour or even the Mark VI: Corvus Armour due to its stealth aspects. Although some Vigilators may forego power armour altogether and stick with the easier-to-maintain Scout Armour. Replaced with Scouts and Eliminators.

Take the time to downgrade their Power armor to Scout armor, and they also gain Infiltrate and Move through Cover, although Infiltrate won't be conferred on joined units.
