12cm Mortar
The Granatwerfer 42, aka the GrW 42, was a mortar introduced after Operation Barbarossa in an attempt to shore up failings in the German Military compared to the Soviets. It was specifically made to counter French designs that the Commies had borrowed from French Lend lease.
IRL[edit]
The GrW 42, as its technical designation might suggest, was developed and started production in 1942. It was an axis response to the French M35 120mm (12 cm) mortar, and the Soviet copycat design, the PM38. The 42 took the original impressive feats of the 34, and added on to them, allowing it to fling projectiles well over a mile/6km, with said projectile weighing 15.6kg (~34lbs).
However, what they gained in terms of raw firepower they lost in mobility, as this thing weighed in at 617 pounds. This was somewhat mitigated by the addition of a two wheel axel that the weapon could be slid off of for final set up and firing. Due to the prevalence of the GrW 34, it was largely used in conjunction, rather than a replacement for the older system, and saw service until the end of the war.
