Banshees (derived from Béan Sídhe or Ban-sith) are a Psychopomp from Irish Celtic Mythology, a species of Fey whose appearance as either a keening (screaming/wailing) woman or a woman washing bloodstained clothes in a river foretells of a person's death. In many /tg/ media, they are instead a kind of undead fey, with Dungeons & Dragons in particular turning them into the ghosts of evil elves whose scream literally kills anybody who hears it. They're a subset of Haunt in the Companion Set, so are turned like ghosts there.

Dark Sun had dwarf banshees, undead dwarves who died with some unfinished work. Anyone who hears the dwarf banshee's cry or makes eye contact with it may be forced into a berserker rage, fighting everyone around them.
