Chiurgeon
"War is the only proper school of the surgeon."
- – Hippocrates
Chiurgeons also spelled Chirurgeons are medical and anatomical specialists of the Inquisition, Imperial Guard, Orders Hospitaler, and Officio Medicae. Often serving in the Retinue of Inquisitors, these servants specialize not only in the art of healing but also the art of repentance, interrogation, and the yielding of information through torture. Knowing the intricacies of human anatomy, they know the exact amount of punishment they can inflict on their subjects before it expires. They can inflict the maximum amount of pain for the least amount of effort, and then nurse their subject's shattered body back to health in order to begin the process again. Of course if that particular person is a masochist then, well... I guess a null field should suffice.
Field Chiurgeon[edit]
Field Chiurgeons are the field medics used by the Imperial Guard. The field Chiurgeon is first and foremost a line trooper, but one who has received additional training in order to render medical aid to his comrades when needed. In particular, the field Chiurgeon’s expertise lies in keeping his fellow soldiers standing during a given battle so that the entire squad can survive. Highly experienced Imperial Guard regiments, those that have been operational for many years and whose members are considered veterans, are likely to field a great number of field Chiurgeon in their ranks.
The Death Korps of Krieg, on the other hand, delegate Chiurgeon duties to their quartermasters, owing to them treating personnel in the same way as they treat equipment. So when their quartermasters go to the field to collect fallen soldiers' gear for later use, they go an extra mile and also collect their blood, skin and organs for future medical use. While less brainwashed dedicated guardsmen usually see this as a desecration of corpses, Kriegers are all too happy to have a chance to serve the Emperor after death (even as spare parts), so quartermasters are actually treated with a great respect in Krieg regiments.
In cases where a Chiurgeon goes full blown heretic, they transform into a Traitor Corpseman.
