Kanonenjagdpanzer

Built in 1960 for the Bundeswehr, the Kanonenjagdpanzer is a subtle callback to the Bundeswehr's roots in the Wehrmacht, drawing its lineage from vehicles like the StuG and Jagdpanzer of yesteryear. That being said, by the Team Yankee timeframe, it is a massively obsolete vehicle with weak firepower and poor training, but at least it's cheap!

In Team Yankee[edit]

The Kanonenjagdpanzer is an interesting addition, being a reserve vehicle like the Jagers it supports. This means skill and rally 4+, and more importantly a to hit of 3+. That, combined with the very poor armor (6/3/1) means that any dedicated AT that looks your way will wipe you out just about instantly.

Your firepower is mediocre, with AT 16, RoF 2/1, and HEAT. What this HEAT really does is serves to make you completely useless at combatting modern tanks and even uparmored IFVs. You don't even have the penetration to take on a T55AM2 from the front, one of the cheapest vehicles in the game!

The mobility is average, 10" tactical and a 3+ cross that means if you try to do anything fun with woods, you'll bog a tank every time. Nothing amazing, but nothing to complain about here.

So what's the upside of a vehicle that can only really combat friendly NATO Leopards and AMX-30s? Well, they're cheap, like stupid cheap. Even cheaper than the T-55 in fact! It only costs 6 points for 4 vehicles, and while they can't do much, they do have some important uses you can consider! The first is that, while they can't really do anything about tanks unless you manage to get to the sides of 1st gen T-55s and such, they are really good for munching BMPs and other support vehicles of any flavor, primarily thanks to the BMP lacking any applique armor equivalent. Use them as a cheap ambush, then pop them as Pact is overwhelming your poor reservists: chances are they'll kill around 5 BMPs, which will do a decent amount to thin out the hoard. This is, of course, if you want to waste an ambush on such a cheap unit which could instead be used on more powerful units.
