Maritime Cruiser
Just like the Oceanic Battleships from before, in late 2021, Wargaming and GeeDubs did another collab and released two more of these vessels. This time, one is given to the Black Templars that is (Fittingly) based on the Nazi German Kriegsmarine Admiral Hipper-class cruiser whilst the other was given to the Orks; their's based on the much smaller Japanese Akizuki-class destroyer.
Like their slightly larger brethren, Maritime Cruisers are designed to police and enforce the maritime duty of planetary order. Whilst smaller and weaker armed than the larger Battleships, these Cruisers are still formidably armed and is able to hold its own independently from other ship support over extended journeys. So far, only one Maritime Cruiser is known in the Imperium and the wider 40k universe. Like the Oceanic Battleships, the canonicity of these ships is a bit clouded, given the fact that these are essentially a GW collab with World of Warships, with both ships based on the World War II-era warships. As such, any stats and schematics on these ships would be based on that particular warship in question.
Class[edit]
Basic[edit]
Cross of Dorn[edit]
The Cross of Dorn-class Maritime Cruiser remains the only maritime vessel used by the Space Marines and possibly the only time where the word 'marine' actually fits in 'space marine'.
Though it looks deceptively small, compared to the gargantuan vessels of Chapter's fleets, the Cross of Dorn dates back to the early days of the Dark Age of Technology. The warship still holds the mysterious and now forbidden powers of that long-forgotten era and was given to the Black Templars, upon their Founding, by their Primarch Rogal Dorn. The Cross of Dorn was his gift, reward and blessing to both the newly created Chapter and its first High Marshal Sigismund. However, for some...retarded reason, the warship is one of the most closely guarded secrets of the Black Templars and only a few chosen members of the Chapter know of its existence. Why a vintage-style maritime warship is considered to be so sacred as to be hidden remains unknown. Your guess is as good as ours. What? Did the warship contain Dorn's extra heretical pinup posters or what? When the Cross of Dorn is not in use, it rests deep within the Reclusiam hangars of the Black Templars' flagship, the Eternal Crusader.
The Cross of Dorn is currently commanded by the Sword Brethren Augustin Riegerwald. He is using it in his battle with the Ork Freebooter Kaptin, Grotmaz Smart.
As the warship is obviously based on the Admiral Hipper-class cruiser, its primary armament includes eight 20.3 cm SK C/34 guns in four twin turrets. Its' heavy anti-aircraft battery consisted of twelve 10.5 cm (4.1 in) SK C/33 guns in twin mountings. For closer-range anti-aircraft weaponry, it initially consisted of twelve 3.7 cm (1.5 in) SK C/30 guns and eight 2 cm (0.79 in) Flak 38 guns. Last but not least, ut carried twenty-four G7a torpedoes, twelve loaded in the tubes and one reload for each. Like its space counterpart, the Cross of Dorn lacks the armoured prow of the Ignis Purgatio-class Oceanic Battleship, meaning that it is more suited for range combat than close-range assaults.
