The Order of the Waning Dawn is an Adepta Sororitas order That was created using the Sisters of Battle Order Creation Tables. They fight alongside the Black Sentinels Space Marine chapter in defense of Dersok XII, but are often at odds with the brotherhood's underhanded and flighty tactics. Oddly, the sisters maintain a close and warm relationship with the Scholastica Psykana, and are especially welcoming of biomancers who are willing to work alongside them.

Overview[edit]

A Dominion of the Waning Dawn

The Order of the Waning Dawn was founded to fulfill a singular purpose; to destroy anything that affronts the sacred human form. They are ruthlessly devoted to this cause, and ceaselessly hunt aliens and mutants wherever they may be found. Their arrival onto Imperial worlds is usually accompanied by widespread genetic testing of the local populace, and ruthless cleansing of any who show signs of deviation. Most planetary governors are hesitant to request their aid, even if it is sorely needed, for none are safe from their puritanical agenda, regardless of social standing.

To further their objectives, the sisters of the Waning Dawn are trained extensively in the identification and weaknesses of a variety of alien species. As such, xenos throughout the southern segment of the Ultima Segmentum have learned to fear these fanatics, for their mad hatred is matched only by their unrelenting aggression. The order's battle sisters are trained extensively in close-quarters combat, and nearly every weapon of their comes with a bayonet or some other kind of bladed attachment which they use to great effect.

The Order of the Waning Dawn is relatively unique among the Adepta Sororitas in that they maintain a permanent naval presence. In place of the earthly convents utilized by their peers, the sisters of the Waning Dawn are based out of the Fist of Purity, a starfort of ancient construction. Believed by some to be an ancient Imperial Fists fortification, the Fist of Purity serves as the order's fortress-convent as well as their primary means for transport, for the structure is fully warp-capable. This allows them to deploy it directly above whatever world has earned their ire, assaulting the foe directly from orbit via drop ships and jump packs.

Despite their extremist agenda, the sisters of the Waning Dawn are oddly friendly towards psykers, seeing them as blessed tools to further the God-Emperor's plans. To this end, the order maintains a close relationship with the Scholastica Psykana, and are especially welcoming of biomancers who are sent to serve alongside them.

Recently, the sisters of the Waning Dawn have been engaged in a protracted war on the hive world of Derosk XII. A recruiting world for the Black Sentinels space marine chapter, Derosk XII is under attack from a T'au expeditionary force, as well as ork freebooterz and drukhari raiders who seek to take advantage of the situation to loot the world. In these dark times, the Imperium can scarcely afford to lose such a valuable planet, and the order's battle sisters have found their skills put to the test as they wage a war of extermination against the hated xenos.

Tabletop Rules[edit]

Order Conviction: Righteous Advance[edit]

Burning with rage towards the twisted and the inhuman, the sisters of the Waning Dawn ruthlessly advance on their foes, eager to expunge their filth from the galaxy.

INFANTRY with this conviction add 1 to their Attacks characteristic. In addition, if a unit with this conviction Advances, it can ignore the penalty for firing Assault weapons and treats all Rapid Fire weapons it is armed with as Assault weapons until the end of the turn (e.g. a Rapid Fire 1 weapon is treated as an Assault 1 weapon).

Stratagem: Genotoxin Shells[edit]

Rare and difficult to produce, these bolt shells contain a genetically targeted poison to better aid the sisters of the Waning Dawn in the purgation of the alien

This Stratagem costs 2 Command Points. Use this Stratagem when an ORDER OF THE WANING DAWN INFANTRY unit is selected to shoot. All bolt weapons in the unit will wound on a 2+, regardless of their strength, when targeting units with the AELDARI, ORKS, T'AU EMPIRE, or TYRANIDS keywords, unless the target also has the VEHICLE or TITANIC keywords, in which case they will wound on a 6+ instead.

Warlord Trait: Genetic Mastery[edit]

This leader is experienced with medical technology, the better to hunt the impure.

At the beginning of each of your turns, remove 1 wound that this Warlord has suffered earlier in the battle.

Relic: The Death Mask of Saint Bella[edit]

When she was alive, Saint Bella the Triumphant was a paragon of everything the Order of the Waning Dawn stands for. A perfect specimen of humanity, Saint Bella was charismatic in speech, beautiful in appearance, and utterly unrelenting in her hatred for the enemies of the sisterhood. It is said that even her foes often found themselves transfixed by her beauty and force of will. Whether or not this is true is a matter of debate, but what cannot be denied is the mesmerizing effect her death mask seems to have on those around her.

ORDER OF THE WANING DAWN CANONESS only. Enemy units within 1” of the bearer cannot Fall Back. This relic has no effect on units with the VEHICLE or TITANIC keywords.

Original Rolls[edit]

The Order's colors

Created using the Sisters of Battle Order Creation Tables.

Order Originator: Order of the Ebon Chalice (though this could be apocryphal, since they act a lot more like sisters of the Bloody Rose).

Purpose of Founding: Standing Force. The fact that they're based out of a mobile space fortress allows them to stand guard over planets requiring their attention for years or even decades. Once they consider their work complete, they move on to another world and the same process starts all over again.

Order Flaw: An Eye for an Eye. The Order refuses to use the tactics of cowards and will sacrifice every soldier before retreating. The Black Sentinels rarely allow this to come to pass, however.

Order Demeanour: Uphold the Honour of the Emperor. The sisters of the Waning Dawn believe that, in addition to being a god, the Emperor was the greatest man to ever live, and through eugenics they hope to make humanity more like him.

Figure of Legend: Sister Superior Caless Atera, Bane of Orks

Order Homeworld: Technically the Fist of Purity, though they tend to deploy above worlds for extended periods of time, so those could also be considered temporary homeworlds. Right now, they've stationed above Derosk XII.

Influence Over Homeworld: No Influence. The Sisters operate out of their orbital fortress-convent, and generally descend only when on Schola assignments or when undergoing Orbital Insertion.

Order Organization: Slight Variation

Order Strategy: Orbital Insertion, descending from their satellite-monastery via drop ships and jump packs after heavy orbital bombardment of the target zone.

Order Divergence: Modified Weaponry. The sisters of the Waning Dawn make heavy use of Arbites weaponry, such as shock-clubs, combat shotguns, and Locke-Pattern Bolters. All projectile weaponry can be partially disassembled for close-quarters combat, and come equipped with some form of bayonet.

Order Method of Worship: Penance and Obligation. Considering their obsession with genetic purity, it's not terribly surprising that there's a fair amount of self-loathing in the order.

Order Size: Nominal, despite all efforts to the contrary.

Order Allies: The Scholastica Psykana, who often send their Biomancers to serve alongside the order. The Black Sentinels Space Marine Chapter consider themselves close allies of the Sisters, but the Sisters tend to take offense at the brotherhood's habit of 'fleeing' from combat.

Order Enemies: Aliens and mutants in general, but they have a particular grudge towards Doran J’Kaara Demlok and the Broken Altar Kabal.
