Phantom Battle Titan
The Phantom Titan is the largest Eldar Titan (If you discount on whether a Warlock Titan is a sub-category of a Phantom Titan the same way as how Emperor Titans are split between Imperator or Warmonger) known to the Imperium. Similar to its smaller cousin, the Phantom while a bit slower is still much faster than the Titans of other races, keeping in the theme of Eldar glass cannons. It is actually taller than the Warlord Battle Titan due to the fins, although the latter is far, far bulkier.
- Height: 31m without fin - 36-38m with fin; approx
- Crew: 1-3 crew
- Mass: 500-700 tonnes; approx
Overview[edit]
These Phantom Titans are often considered as the pinnacle of Eldar land vehicles (Again, arguments flare up on whether a Warlock Titan should be more technologically sophisticated). Unlike the Imperium's Plasma Fusion Cores that powers up their Titan, the Eldar instead uses a specially constructed Wraithbone core which is some kind of wonky Eldar physics that allows the souls of a dead Eldar to move freely throughout the machine, which in turn gives the Phantom Titan powers like those of a Wraithguard/Wraithlord but unlike the smaller walkers, this Titan merges the dead Eldar with that of its living crew; helping them guide them like an over-glorified GPS.
Some Phantom Titans are driven by a single Steersman while others are guided by twins or triplets (Guess it is going to get a bit cramped up there). They are usually situated in the head cockpit which gives them a view 25 meters above the ground.
Phantom Titans do not participate in the Eldar's normal warfare operations of raids and surgical strikes, but are instead reserved for when shit has completely hit the fan...like...multiple fans. This is when the Phantom is used. Given how it has the longest legs out of any model, it is really, really fast for something of its size, and its comically oversized legs allows a Phantom pilot to proverbially kick a Warlord in its Titanic Dick (Ouch! The Princeps is gonna feel that one!).
Somewhat disturbingly some Craftworlds can become so desperate for twin/triplets to crew the phantom titans that they force those few born who have not yet become a Titan pilot to crew them, an unusual practice considering how sacred the path system is and how the biggest rule is that it is ultimately individual desire and not others who decide which path you walk. Although one must wonder what idiot decided it was a good idea to develop such an overly complicated trainwreck of a piloting system. Seriously, it only functions well with twins and triplets? And you thought the Collegia Titanica had a pain in the ass entrance exam.
Weaponry[edit]
The Phantom's primary arm mounts can be fitted with twin Phantom Titan Pulsars, Distortion Cannons or a special Power Glaive known as the Ashuna-Valcry'le.
Secondary weapons mounted in its shoulders include Phantom Missile Launchers and either a Pulse Laser or Titan-grade Starcannon.
It is also protected by a Titan-grade Holo-Field projected by the large rear fins. Meaning that not only does this thing rape vehicles on the battlefield, but it is also going to be a bitch to hit with anti-titan weaponry (How the hell can you miss a 25+meter tall walker!? Holofields are not an excuse!).
Crunch[edit]
On 9th Edition, these are your biggest, baddest, priciest model in the entire Eldar arsenal. At 3000pts to field and a minimum of $860 for the privilege to actually own one, you will never field even one of these in any conventional games. But, if you happen to be particularly loaded and know a few rich friends, you might get to break out your premier titan in an Apocalypse game. At 60 wounds at T9, the Phantom Titan is one of the most durable units in the game and with weapons leaning upwards of S14-S18 and all primary weapons dealing between 5 to 12 flat damage a hit, one of the most powerful. No other non-Titanic unit in the game can hope to stand against a Phantom Titan's sheer firepower and survive. To this end, the only units that a Phantom Titan should really pay attention to are opposing Titans. Due to this thing's massive pricepoint, opposing players can field a substantial number of opposing Imperial Knights, Wraithknights or other "conventional" titans that are able to overwhelm a Phantom Titan through sheer numbers... which is honestly kind of saying something. But hey, if you're playing Xenos, this is the only vehicle that could reliably stand toe-to-toe with the motherfucking Warlord Battle Titan.
