Revolutionary Girl Utena is a surreal, symbolism-heavy manga-turned anime from the 1990s about an orphan girl named Utena Tenjou who is inspired to "become a prince" after a mysterious prince comforts her following the death of her parents and then vanishes, leaving her with only a rose-adorned signet ring to remember him by. Years later, she enrolls in the prestigious Ohtori Academy, whose Student Coucil members wear signet rings identical to hers and fight bitter duels over the hand of a mysterious girl named Anthy Himemiya, "The Rose Bride", who apparently possesses the "power to revolutionize the world". In search of answers, Utena becomes Anthy's champion, unlocking the long, dark road to revelations ahead.
This series is /tg/-relevant mainly because it's one of several popular late 80s-early 2000s anime to get licensed by Guardians of Order, either as setting splatbooks for Big Eyes, Small Mouth or fully marketed as "The Roleplaying Game" of their respective series. Fun fact; this was GoO's last project, being the final thing they managed to print before the company went bankrupt in 2006. This led to them only releasing splatbooks for the first two of four sagas; The Student Council Saga and the Black Roses Saga.
