Red Rock is a settlement made for the CATastrophe homebrew system.

Red Rock, also known as The Red City, is a rather large mixed-economy settlement with around 240,000 people with the population growing. It mainly relies on its extensive trade network throughout the Endless Blue and serves as a major port where Crimson Claw fleets would go and dock their ships. The city at first glance appears to be a shanty town, with rusted sheet-metal siding, houses incorporating old vehicles, tattered awnings, however this can't be further from the truth.

Just go into the interior of any building and you'll find out the Red Rock is doing well. The city has a central power grid and a generator scavenged from central archeotech, and also a water purifier system. The city relies on its phishing and diving crews for its food and also its hydroponic facilities. All industries are controlled by the Crimson Claws: the governing body in the Red Rock.

History[edit]

According to Akadmee scholars, the Red Rock was once an ancient city known as Belgrade. It fell below the waves during the great cataclysm that ended the civilization of the Earless. The city lay dormant for centuries until it was rediscovered by a band of Kemomimi boat-nomads known as "The Crimson Claws" who immediately used the city as a building platform for their new settlement. The first settlements resembled shanty towns more than actual settlements, with buildings created out of scrap metal, rusted-out vehicles, shipping containers, and buildings being made on top of rooftops and old ship-hulks.

Exploration of Old Belgrade[edit]

The Crimson Claws launched several exploration teams into the city of Old Belgrade, but the first few attempts ended in absolute fucking disaster. Out of 1,500 explorers sent in, only 49 came back alive. The survivors spoke of the Iron Sentries: automatons which roamed the halls and tore apart all intruders with rapid-fire weapons.

Phase two of the Exploration Effort. The Crimson Claw Explorers used stealth tactics to infiltrate a sector of Old Belgrade and with each tenuous exploration retrieved ancient technology. After a long campaign of nipping and taking little pieces of tech, the Crimson Claws stumbled upon the control room and disabled an entire sector's worth of Iron Sentries, the city is free for the taking. The Sector is now known as the "Red Rock Catacombs" and has since been picked clean by the Crimson Claws.

What followed was a period of economic growth. Many flocked to the city which was built up with the newfound tech, all under the guise of the Crimson Claws. The city was founded under the philosophy of Democratic Socialism, with all land and capital being owned by the public. All banking, agriculture and industries are controlled by the Crimson Claws who are the head of state. Wealth inequality and poverty is unknown.

Locations[edit]

The Central Bazaar[edit]

Situated within the center of the Red City, the Bazaar is built on several dozen flat barges anchored down, lashed together, and linked with sheet metal. This is where all the day-to-day shopping takes place, and a must-see for any adventurers. Anything from fresh-caught phish, produce from the hydroponics, clothes, and even weapons can be found here. There is a food court in the center of the Bazaar with several different cuisines from all over the Endless Blue. In the middle of all this is the mist tower which blows cold air to keep the Bazaar cooler than the surrounding city.

Crimson Citadel[edit]

The Crimson Citadel is a wrecked and rusted aircraft carrier which is the main base of operations for the Crimson Claws. It is defended with Iron Sentry weaponry. The Crimson Claws use it as their base of operations a command center. It has a meeting room, a hospital, the treasury, and living quarters for their party members. Due to its vast size, the Crimson Citadel is mostly empty with new sections being discovered and explored frequently. Skitterbugs and scuttlers inhabit the giant wreck.

Ark Town[edit]

The Ark Town are a network of ancient earless ship-hulks linked with suspended walkways and bridges which surrounded the Crimson Citadel. People live either within the mostly gutted hulks or on top of them. This is home to the Red Rock Science Division and some Akadmee researchers. While a few of the more built-up hulks are completely inhabited, most of them are empty and even unexplored.

The Red Port[edit]

The Red Port is where ships from the Endless Blue dock when they come to trade with the Red City. It's also home to the boardwalk: a rusted-out structure which surrounds the city which functions much in the same way as the Bazaar does, this place is famous for its entertainment, as beach parties and surfing contests are always held here, and so are festivals.

The Mechanic's Quarter[edit]

The Mechanic's Quarter is home to the water purification plant and the hydroponics. This is where most of the food is grown and where the water is desalinated and purified. Robots taken from the Old City are also used here to make everyday products, and the Ministry of Engineering operates here.

The Catacombs[edit]

The Catacombs are an area of Old Belgrade which has been taken over by the Crimson Claws. This is where the generator is located. This is the only "safe" part of the Old City, all other areas are being patrolled by Iron Sentries. Other than the generator room, this place has been entirely looted of archeotech and sits empty.

Relations[edit]

The Red Rock has pretty good relations with the Akadmee and most large settlements. Though there are some differences as most of the Red Rock inhabitants view other more mercantile societies as more corrupt and not as egalitarian as they are. The Crimson Claws have strained relationships with mercantile factions such as the Swishtail Foxes from Banana Island, and as such they are not welcome on the Red Rock.
