Maritime Escort
Just like the Oceanic Battleships from before, in late 2021, Wargaming and GeeDubs did another collab and released two more of these vessels. This time, one is given to the Black Templars that is (Fittingly) based on the Nazi German Kriegsmarine Admiral Hipper-class cruiser whilst the other was given to the Orks; their's based on the much smaller Japanese Akizuki-class destroyer.
Maritime Escorts such as destroyers, corvettes and frigates are designed to act as a support vessel for larger maritime warships. Unlike their space counterparts which are deigned specifically to catch bullets, in the maritime realm, these escorts can hold their own either independently from larger ships or as a powerful counterfire support in fleet engagements. So far, only one Maritime Escort is known in the wider 40k universe. Like the Oceanic Battleships, the canonicity of these ships is a bit clouded, given the fact that these are essentially a GW collab with World of Warships, with both ships based on the World War II-era warships. As such, any stats and schematics on these ships would be based on that particular warship in question.
Destroyer[edit]
Basic[edit]
Ship Smasha[edit]
The Ship Smasha-class Maritime Destroyer remains a farcry from the much larger and more impressive Nautical Kroozer. Compared to the Kroozer, this Destroyer is a minnow in an ocean filled with leviathans. Even amongst its primary maritime adversary which is usually the Cross of Dorn-class Maritime Cruiser, the Ship Smasha-class is outgunned by a significant margin. However, there is one upside and that is its small size, which allows the Ship Smasha to run circles around larger warhips and be a decent littoral vessel for maritime bombardment whereas larger vessels would have simply beached itself.
Likewise, while most Greenskin warships rely on their gods, Gork and Mork, to guide them through the Warp, the Ship Smasha is vastly different. The Orks who command it, simply have to tell the warship where to go and it will use the Warp to get there. Yes, that tiny little boat has a goddamned Warp Engine. However the Greenskins, must be smart in order for the Ship Smasha to listen to them. Not Mekboy smart. Not Weirdboy smart. Real smart. It's not known how the Orks came to possess the Ship Smasha, as the Greenskins no longer remember nor do they care. To them, the warship has always been there.
The Ship Smasha is currently commanded by the Freebooter Kaptin Grotmaz Smart. He is using it in his battle with the Black Templars Sword Brethren Augustin Riegerwald.
As it is based on the Akizuki-class destroyer, the Ship Smasha's armaments consist of Type 98 dual-purpose guns in four twin mounts as its main battery. The four turrets were placed in pairs fore and aft, with the middle positions located in a superfiring position, as well as a centerline-mounted Type 92 quadruple torpedo launcher with reloads, firing the Type 93 "Long Lance" torpedo. Additionally, it mounts two Type 94 depth charge projectors and 54 depth charges. In terms of anti-aircraft capability, it carries a total of 41 Type 96 guns. Like most Ork vessels, the Ship Smasha has a reinforced pike designed to bludgeon giant holes against other ships much larger than itself.
