The Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game/Tactics/Garrison of Dale
Why Play Garrison of Dale[edit]
Because you're indecisive and never know what to bring in a game. Well now your options are so limited you can bring all three units to even a small game. They do have a decent army bonus going for them where all captains and warriors of Dale get +1 to their shoot value, giving you the ability to pretend your archers are elves.
Pros[edit]
- Warriors and captains can take elf bows.
- You can bring a Windlance.
Cons[edit]
- Two heroes and one troops unit to choose from... that's it.
Army Bonus[edit]
"Girion, Lord of the city, rallied his bowman to fire upon the beast" - Captains of Dale and Warriors of Dale have their shoot value improved to a 3+
Unit Analysis[edit]
Heroes[edit]
- Girion Lord of Dale:Your named hero, he's almost identical to Bard (and not just because he's played by the same guy in the movies), He has a better defence but only has the Rapid Fire and whinlance trained special rule. You can equip him with a great bow but you want him brining the whindlance, This siege engine follows the superior construction upgrade rules, it only scatters 3 instead of 6 and hits at strength 10! However, it can never move after it has been deployed.
- Warriors of Dale Captain: Nothing that makes them stand out from the warriors under their command, just +1 to most of their attributes except movement and shoot value. they can however also bring a bow which with being a hero wont count up to your bow limit.
Troops[edit]
- Warriors of Dale: These guys are pretty balanced and are at a reasonable cost for points, they haven't got amazing strength or defence but they can be upgraded to use elf bows, this and along with the army bonus of getting +1 to their shoot value you have yourself a rather cheap and intimidating line of archers.
Allies[edit]
Historical Allies[edit]
Army of Thror: These guys are your only real friends, and it makes perfect sense to bring them, they can take the hit your guys can't with defence 6 and higher. Meanwhile your archers can rain arrows down on your opponent, your other units can protect weaker flanks and secure objectives faster than your shorter allies.
