Creator of the [[Dragonriders of Pern]] SF-Fantasy series, which either invented or collected quite a lot of Fandom Favorite tropes for the next forty years... starting with the idea of color-coded [[dragon]]s. If you knew a teenager during the '80s that was the slightest bit into 'romantic fantasy', they probably read at least three Dragonriders books.

McCaffrey's writing has a number of [[Fetishes|stylistic quirks]], such as referencing someone named "john green", "J.G." or "Jayge."  Her female characters are typically described as "not pretty" until it's important to the plot, at which point she'll dedicate an entire page to how beautiful this "not pretty" girl's face is. Also, there are a number of rape scenes.

In 2007, McCaffrey (among many others) signed her name in support of Dragon*Con's cofounder Edward Eliot Kramer after he got busted for teh paedo.
