Anne McCaffrey

Creator of the Dragonriders of Pern SF-Fantasy series, which either invented or collected quite a lot of Fandom Favorite tropes for the next forty years... starting with the idea of color-coded dragons. And then she piledrove that fandom into the ground via lawsuits. More-or-less singlehandedly responsible for the "this stuff belongs to the original copyright holders, please don't sue me ;_;" disclaimers on FFnet. If you knew a teenager during the '80s that was the slightest bit into 'romantic fantasy', they probably read at least three Dragonriders books.

McCaffrey's writing has a number of stylistic quirks, such as referencing someone named "john green", "J.G." or "Jayge." Her female characters are typically described as "not pretty" until it's important to the plot, at which point she'll dedicate an entire page to how beautiful this "not pretty" girl's face is. Also, there are a number of rape scenes.

McCaffrey has expressed a number of unscientific/crazy opinions including the one that getting a tent-peg up the butt will turn you gay. In 2007, McCaffrey (among many others) signed her name in support of Dragon*Con's cofounder Edward Eliot Kramer after he got busted for teh paedo.
