The Flash Gitz called. They want their guns back.

"Fire missiles! Fire again! Fire them all!"

– Arcturus Mengsk, StarCraft II: Co-op Mode

"Uh... brothers, what's a backblast?"

– Desolation Primaris Marine

The Desolator Desolation Squads are the newest addition to the Primaris roster as of Strike Force Agastus. Following the traditions of the Eldar, this primaris unit takes an idea off of the Dark Reapers and somehow outderped them in terms of design and usability. It would only be so long until the Orks inspired someone else for once, though the Infernus Heavy Bolter was probably designed on a similar basis.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The Desolation Squad has been directly compared to the Devastator Squads of the firstborn marines, being the ones that carry the heavy weapons (albeit limited to explosives, with the other weapons the Devastators use being covered by Heavy Intercessors, Hellblasters with Heavy Plasma Incinerators, Eradicators, and Eliminators with las-fusils). Their heavy weapon of choice is a hilarious-looking Castellan Launcher which can be fired indirectly as well as a selection of sub-weapons ranging from the Superfrag Rocket Launcher and the Superkrak Rocket Launcher. Their sergeant is equipped with a Vengor Launcher that allows it to indirectly attack at enemies when your other troops can’t target them. What makes them so super? It's because they're Space Marine weapons Well, it's the inflated stats: Just as the Guard got Field Ordnance Batteries with an Anti-Tank, Anti-Horde, and Middle option, so too did the Space Marines: the Anti-Horde has minimum 3+D3 shots, the Anti-Tank does 3+d3 damage, and the middle option gets to fire outside of LOS. The belt-fed Castellan is also a D3 bolter with AP-1,Blast and also non-LOS shooting, and is basically an underslung addon to whatever launcher you picked.

If all this sounds familiar, their inflated stats and reliability is a lot like Eliminators when they first came out, except Eliminators pick their ammo before each shot, but Desolation Squads pick their loadout before battle.

TL;DR: each Marine gets a souped up version of the base Missile Launcher that is very special because of how reliable they are for each role.
