In fact many Anime are taken from Manga, and instead of waiting for the series to finish they'll just animate what's out until they run out of actual source material. But instead of stopping there like any sane person would, the Japanese start making shit up and make what is called filler arcs until they have enough of the Manga stocked up that they can get back to the real plot.

Manga are like comics, except Japanese, and read from right to left. Alongside anime, manga are one of the stereotypical weeaboo's favourite things. It is very common for popular manga series to receive animated adaptations and vice versa, prompting endless debate amongst fans about which version is better. Manga are sometimes referred to as mangos by both detractors and fans.
