The Merkhants are one of Planescape's "planar sects"; minor factions who have little influence in Sigil; who hold the dubious honor of being the most uncreatively named and conceived faction in the setting. They might as well just be called the Merchant's Guild considering that they're one letter and word away from that. They believe that money is power, and if you hoard enough material wealth, you will eventually be able to buy dominion over the entire multiverse, no clue on how they'll be able to use fucking physical currency to buy out Celestia, the deepest levels of Baator, or the chaotic infinity that is the Abyss.
They are most active in the Outlands, where trade routes between the planes often cross.
