Savant is one of the "new" classes in ''[[Dragon Magazine|Dragon Compendium]]'', appearing as an update of a 2E class that originally appeared in issue 140. While the other seven classes are effectively variants of PHB classes, Savant is actually a unique class with competent enough design and an original concept. The Savant is truly able to do everything: Good skills, martial weapons, trapfinding, arcane casting, and even divine casting. The one unique feature the Savant has is Skill Assistance, which allows allies to use some of his skill check results instead of their own, explicitly allowing the paladin in noisy armor to sneak well. Unfortunately, by the time ''Dragon Compendium'' released, that concept of a class that could do some of everything was done better by the [[Factotum]].
