Possibly the most out-of-character unit to ever come out of 40k.

Resembling more like a Starcraft Bunker than something out of 40k (I know I know, que irony). The Hammerfall Bunker are heavily weaponized, fortified emplacements used by Space Marines and are dropped from orbit to provide a beachhead or secure a landing zone. They are also unique amongst 40k in that it is one of the few structures that is faction specific and one of the few that actually fires back.

It is also a relatively strange structure, given that the role of both the Space Marines and Primaris Marines are meant as highly mobile and elite special forces. Giving the Primaris a structure whose sole purpose is to soak up damage and literally hold the line would be completely pointless for their entire doctrine. If anything, this bunker is more suitable for the Imperial Guard, seriously their entire motto is holding the fucking line, so for the life of us, we have no idea why GeeDubs though that was a good idea.

Anyways, it is highly likely that the Hammerfall Bunker is automated like the Tarantula Turrets. No self-respecting Angels of Death is gonna sit around and shoot from his literal safe space. However, if it is automated, then it kind of defeats the purpose of a bunker ain't it? So we must seriously contend that there are actual supersoldiers who want to hide in their hidey holes. So much for 'Cover is for the Weak'. Hell, speaking of which, there are no clear access port, so how the hell do these Primaris even get in and out in the first place? Fuck. GW may have screwed the pooch on this one.

Crunch

Ranting and confusion aside. The Hammerfall Bunker is a pretty mean piece of ceramite. First, let us start with the secondary weapons. The Bunker comes equipped with eight Heavy Flamers/Bolters, two on each side of the Bunker. This immediately makes Horde armies rethink their tactic in simply just swarming around the structure. Second, there is that notable Missile Launcher#Hammerfall Missile Launcher on top of the Bunker. The missile launcher can shoot either Superfrag or Superkrak missiles. Each of them has an impressive 72" range, with the Superfrag being a Heavy 2D6 launcher with S6, AP0, D1 Blast weapon whilst the Superkrak being a Heavy 2 weapon with the stats being S10, AP-2, D6.

But wait! There's more! the Bunker has a special rule called Defensive Array. In which, each time it is your turn in the Shooting Phase, the Bunker's secondary weapons can target and resolve attacks against EVERY. ELIGIBLE. ENEMY. UNIT. So that means that each time the Bunker fires on overwatch against a charging unit, the Heavy Bolters change to Heavy 6 whilst the Heavy Flamers change to Heavy 2D6. That should end up being WAAAY more shots than a standard Heavy Bolter especially when you consider the smaller board size.
