Wokani
Wokani, also known as Wicca, are a Variant Class in the BECMI version of Dungeons & Dragons. Flavored as the "Humanoid Wizard", Wokani are basically the original D&D Witch Doctor class; this gives them a very restricted access to spells by default, though Dungeon Masters are advised to allow wokani PCs to research and invent new spells to give them powers closer to the standard BECMI Magic-User.
The wokani class was found in the Master Set for BECMI under the name of "Wicca", and was reprinted for players as the Wicca in Tall Tales of the Wee Folk, Top Ballista,The Sea People and The Orcs of Thar, and under the Wokani name in the Hollow World boxed set and in the Rules Cyclopedia.
Mechanics[edit | edit source]
Like its Shaman equivalent, the wokani was an early form of multiclassing; once they were at least 1st level (because many of the monstrous races who had access to the class began at negative levels to try and balance out how powerful they were), they could attempt to be tutored in the chosen magical class. This secondary class caused their XP costs for leveling up to increase, based on what level of Wokani or Shaman they would need to advance to.

Welch's 5e Version[edit | edit source]
Mr Welch updated the Wokani to Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition as a Sorcerer subclass. At 1st level, it grants the sorcerer bonus proficiencies in Nature and Survival, and the feature Dark Tongue of Magic; the sorcerer ignores somatic and material components for spellcasting, but all spells require vocal components, even if they didn't originally. At 6th level, Unbridled Power allows the sorcerer to get more bang for their buck out of the "Empowered Spell" metamagic; they can reroll double the number of dice equal to their Charisma modifier. At 14th level, Raw Power increases their Sorcery Points total by their Charisma modifier. Finally, 18th level brings them the feature Unfettered Sorcery, which gives them the option to spend sorcery points equal to double a spell's level in order to automatically do max damage with that spell.
