Dockalfen (singular: Dockalfar) are a race of playable fey in Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. They hail from an article in Dragon Magazine #257, which examines the idea of using AD&D mechanics to roleplay in what is basically Dark Ages Britain.
Cousins of the Alfen race, the dockalfen are essentially the drow of the Dark Ages setting, being wickedly mischievous elf-kin who inhabit caves and deep tunnels below the earth. They can be visually distinguished by their chalk-white skin, their pale hair (light blonde to stark white), and their solid black eyes.
Except where differences are noted below, this race possesses all of the same racial abilities as the standard AD&D elf:
- Ability Score Minimum/Maximum: Strength 3/17, Dexterity 10/18, Constitution 3/16, Intelligence 6/18, Wisdom 3/18 , Charisma 4/18
- Ability Score Adjustments: +2 Dexterity, -1 Strength, -1 Constitution
- Class & Level Limits: Fighter 10, Thief 15, Wizard (Mage 12, Illusionist Unlimited)
- Multiclass Options: Fighter/Thief, Thief/Illusionist
- Infravision 90 feet
- +2 to saves vs. Illusions.
- Elven weapon bonus only applies to Swords, not to Bows.
- When operating alone, a dockalfar inflicts a -6 penalty (-3 if it must open a portal) on its enemies' Surprise Rolls.
