During the Second Founding, those who yearned for the speed and freedom after years of being under the oppressive yoke of their gene-father Alexandri banded together in the Mechanist Warriors. These restless heirs to lightning warfare are among the most mobile warriors of the Imperium. They focus entirely on the assault.

Chapter History[edit | edit source]

When the great Space Marine Legions were broken up in the Imperial Reformation, the Silver Cataphracts had already begun to make good on their losses of manpower from the brutal war against Hektor Cincinnatus's traitor legions. But their losses of equipment left them ragged. A partial solution during the Scouring had involved outfitting more of the Legion with attack bikes. These Marines were meant to be outriders, raiders, and scouts but preformed so well a specialist formation was made. Though unnamed, this dedicated formation of assault bikers would later be known by those they fought with as the Mechanist Warriors.

Preferring not to break apart these excellent brothers, Sergei chose to keep them together in a Chapter named after their honorary title. A choice selection of Land Speeders, Rhinos, and Predator tanks were given as well to ensure the Warriors would not be without a strong backbone of armor to support their strikeout assaults. Driven as all Cataphract Successors, they became renowned throughout the Imperium in a short time due to their unrelenting, swift attacks against its enemies.

442.M33 Battle of Swirling Sands

A company of Mechanist Warriors descend on an outpost of the Harakien Eldar Empire. The target is a major supply depot, believed to be a preparation for new offensives against Imperial worlds. Despite their foes' reputation for speed, the Mechanist Warriors' assault leave the Eldar bewildered and hurting after several clashes. Imperial reinforcements arrive shortly after the stunning strike made by the Chapter. The plans of the Empire are halted thanks to the loss of manpower in the spectacular assault. Before any honors or ceremony can be arranged the Mechanist Warriors depart for new battlefields.

Chapter Combat Doctrine[edit | edit source]

The Mechanist Warriors prize mobility and fluidity in battle. Unlike their dour sires, they are very comfortable with hit-and-run tactics. Pistol marksmanship, especially while controlling a bike, is a fixation of the Chapter. Tank operation is utilized but not favored by the Marines of the Chapter with many wanting to take fast vehicles sacrificing protection for mobility. Sharpshooters are given a special place in the Chapter, delivering death from afar after a biker raid. They are crucial to the hit-and-run pathos the Warriors rely on. The rifles of these keen eyed Marines remove scores of enemies from the battle while they are disoriented.

Always on the margin of the fighting instruction of the codex, the Chapter has gradually modified its companies into independent formations, each maintaining its own scout and veteran squads. This variant organisation has meant that they are often the first respondents to incursions from aliens, heretics, and traitors. When a problem is too big for their widely-spread forces, the Mechanist Warriors know that they can draw on the strength of the other Cataphract Successors. The Warriors are an exception to the mutual hatred Silver Cataphract Successors have for one another, always being able to rely on their brother Chapters for support. This is because the Warriors repay these favors in kind, being the first to come to their aid when imperiled.

Chapter Beliefs[edit | edit source]

"Strength comes from striking fast and loose, not iron rigidity."

Jáchym Aarts, first Chapter Master of the Mechanist Warriors

Chapter Homeworld[edit | edit source]

Unlike the vast majority of their kindred, the Mechanist Warriors have no home save the stars. Their Chapter operates from a mobile fleet with a flagship with a salvaged factory vessel and mining ship. This is the Basefleet, from which all other Companies come back to in order to reorganize themselves after a battle. The Basefleet was at first only their Battlebarge the Resolute Machenis but over the years of battling the Emperor's enemies allowed them reap great rewards. The Basefleet is able to give the Chapter all the production it desires while being able to move in the void, keeping the Warriors with unparalleled fluidity.

The Basefleet will find a good position inside of a Sector, staying there while the Companies of the Chapter depart to deal with any threat in the area. No matter how long it would take, they would remain until deeming the region reasonably safe. They would then move on to another Sector. Each world the Mechanist Warriors visit they request whatever tithe of youths the people can spare. These would become the Serfs of the Chapter or Neophytes ready to join the ranks of the Marines.
