Messinghof[edit | edit source]

This page exists as a written record of Messinghof as recorded in the campaign [[1]].

First Impressions[edit | edit source]

Ah Messinghof, Gateway to the World Edge border to the Kingdom of the Dwarves, who have only just been admitted due to the outright suspicion that most Sylvanians have of Dwarves, Halflings and The World. Fortunately the Empire of Man has reclaimed these lands and trade convoys run through Messinghof and into the Mountains bound for far Cathay. There is a sense of optimism to the town, now this being Sylvania this is mostly limited to the belief that they will live to the next morning, but it really is quite exciting.

This is a part of Sylvania that people have actually moved to, where the Count's Tax Evaders are not welcome but neither are the Restless Dead.

Messinghof's novelty and optimism springs from two places:

  1. Its ruler, Bortrand Von Waldenhof, Albrecht's younger brother. Where Albrecht considers his rule punishment, Bortrand sees opportunity and wealth to be made, far from the eyes of Altdorf.
  2. Food, while much of Sylvania's land is terrible for farming, Messinghof's surrounding villages are on the slopes of the World's Edge Mountain and grass is plentiful, fattening the herds which the Butchers of Zherden process and send to Messinghof. Unfortunately due to a lack of Salt, the meat is either run by a team of horses straight to Waldenhof or sold at the MarktPlatz here in Zherden.

Second Impressions[edit | edit source]

The tax-dodgers of Swampdorf have returned to Messinghof after what turned out to be a few weeks away. They were most certainly late to report in with Schonbaum!

The town seems to have slightly changed in their time away, workers labour on the towered gate on the road between Hundham and Messinghof, it seems that they are improving the damaged roofing. Beyond this, labourers are erecting a clock tower in the centre of the MarktPlatz amidsts the 'Great Mud Market'.

Meandering the town streets, the dangerous group saw a handful of pyres in town where Beowmen figures are being tossed upon the flames, declaring the turning point of Autumn. Administering these pyres are priests of Beow who filter onwards to their temple.
