Of the Emperor's twenty god-like creations, eighteen are known in the Hektor Heresy timeline. Nine served the Emperor loyally and fought for him in the great civil war, nine others defected to the cause of Chaos.
Loyalists[edit | edit source]
- Alexandri of Rosskar, a ruthless generalissimo. He is called on by the Emperor to plan the defence of Terra but rules his Legion so cruelly that his own men do away with him in the end.
- Arelex Orannis, the Emperor's second son. He grew up as a ward to spacers and taught his Legion the ways of those close-knit treasure-hunters.
- Brennus, a mighty warrior forged in the tribal warfare of his homeland. The clannish traditions he brought into his Legion made them versatile and strong, but tore them apart in the Heresy.
- Gaspard Lumey, an expert if caustic politician raised to the revolutionary traditions of his sophisticated homeworld. His Legion won victories and enemies in great numbers, but he is fondly remembered for securing a transition of power to the Reformed Imperium.
- Golgothos, whose life was mostly stolen away by pestilence. He would be interred in a great Dreadnought and fought the Traitors with deathless fury.
- Onyx the Indestructible, a giant even among his brothers. Though a remarkable warrior he was headstrong and often reckless in command.
- Roman Albrecht, the Blade of the Emperor. He was the finest swordsman to ever live and a faithful servant to the Emperor. Roman survived the Heresy and was seen as the heir to the Imperial throne, but he was lost in the Scouring.
- Shakya Vardhana, a prophet and visionary. He had the gift of foresight but his knowledge of the future was imperfect. Though the Vardhana's senior officers mostly betrayed him at the beginning of the Heresy, those who stayed loyal brought vital information to the Loyalist cause.
- Tiran Osoros, the liberator. His noble heart tamed the most savage of beasts and the cruellest of men, and his Legion were renowned as peacebringers as much as warriors. Tiran's death early in the Heresy was a cruel blow to the Loyalist cause.
Traitors[edit | edit source]
- Aubrey The Grey was a dreamer and idealist. His unusual upbringing among alien peoples gave him the belief that the Imperium of Mankind could be an inclusive realm for most of the Galaxy's species, but the death of this dream drove Aubrey to discover the Gods of Chaos and walk as their Apostle.
- Cromwald Walgrun, a refined and genteel man whose secret vices became terrible perversions. His gene-sons became the minions of Slaanesh.
- Hektor Cincinnatus, the first son of the Emperor. He was present for the whole of the Great Crusade and for decades his Legion wanted for no material or glory. Though others would contend with Hektor for greatness, he was entrusted to continue the Crusade when the Emperor retired to Terra. However, Hektor's knowledge that the valiant Thunder Warriors had been driven from the stage of history saw him plot to secure the continued reign of the Adeptus Astartes - and turn to the Gods of Chaos for aid against his father.
- Inferox "The Burned King" kept his love for destruction tightly reigned in during the Great Crusade, seeking only to topple the false gods who had plagued humanity during Old Night. When he discovered that the Imperial Truth was just as false, he embraced the worship of Khorne and set whole sectors ablaze.
- Johannes Vrach was a studious man and brilliant scientist. His quest to defeat disease eventually led Vrach into a symbiosis with plagues - and the Cult of Nurgle.
- Rogerius Merrill grew up a quiet and deadly hunter. He never quite fit in among the great statesmen generals, but was unfailingly loyal to Hektor. His Legion came to embody the cruelty of Chaos Undivided.
- The Voidwatcher was born to the warp and its secrets. For all the striving of the Emperor to turn his reckless son to responsible use of his powers, Voidwatcher spiralled into darkness and sought to make himself akin to a god.
- Tollund Ötztal was known as a kind and gentle man, but within his mind lurked a terrible darkness. The violence of the Heresy tore away what was good in him, leaving only a twisted sadist behind.
- Uriel Salazar was created to be the Imperium's weapon against Chaos, only to have his strengths turned against him by the great manipulator, Tzeentch. Now a shape-shifting Daemon Prince, Uriel toys with the very concept of change for his foul master.
