Quevari

Quevari are one of the many strange races of monstrous humanoids native to the Demiplane of Dread. They appear to be perfectly normal humans of an unfamiliar ethnicity - perhaps related to the Vistani in some fashion - whose nature can be summed up as peaceful, friendly and helpful. A quevari community appears to be a simple small village of subsistence farmers and hunter-gatherers, perfectly willing to share what they have with those in need and happy to welcome travelers to relax in their homes. Why, they're some of the nicest folks you might ever meet in Ravenloft, considering how most people in that setting tend to be xenophobic assholes.

...So long as you avoid them on the nights of the full moon, that is.

That's when the monstrous element comes out. On the nights of the full moon, these gentle, goodly folk turn into psychotic cannibalistic serial killers, infused with supernatural speed and agility, and eager to hunt down any non-quevari amongst their ranks and rip them to shreds.

Nobody knows why quevari turn into killing machines on the nights of the full moon - they just do. Worse, the quevari themselves regard their madness with a mixture of fatalism and denial, so they don't take any steps to warn people to stay away from them during "the bloodmoon", as they call it. And because Ravenloft runs on Fuck You, That's Why rules, the fact that they are officially considered to be Lawful Good during the rest of the month means that if you decide to wipe them out for being psychotic killers unwilling to do anything to stop being cannibalistic murderers, then you will be treated as the bad guy, at least going by the rules as written.

Like the Vistani whom they resemble, modern audiences tend to regard them as more than a little racist.
