Raptors are one of the five Birdfolk races in the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition setting of Humblewood. As their name suggests, they resemble humanoid versions of the birds of prey; most ressemble hawks or falcons, but larger individuals may resemble eagles or even vultures. Members of the water-hunting Maran race, obviously, tend to resemble predatory seabirds, such as fish eagles, petrels and shearwaters. Swift and strong, with an uncanny knack for tracking, raptors are the most inherently predatory of all the birdfolk in Humblewood - when one of the birdfolk thinks "ranger" or "hunter", then odds are 10 to 1 that they're picturing a raptor in their mind's eye.

Their natural skill at hunting is augmented by their incredible senses of sight and hearing, which give them an extremely wide field of awareness. In fact, they're typically in so much information at any one time that they have a tendency to appear distracted or otherwise deep in thought.

Aside from their predatory nature, raptors are mostly known as being one of the most solitary birdfolk races. They tend to adopt a transient lifestyle, making a living as nomadic hunters or warriors - many even retreat from society entirely and form isolated nests from which they live off of the land. That's not to say they're entirely antisocial, just that raptors value personal bonds more highly than societal or even family ties.

The patron Amaranthine of the Raptor race is Reya the Explorer.

You cannot glide while carrying heavy weapons or wielding a shield (though you may drop any held items as part of your reaction to spread your arms). You cannot glide while wearing heavy armor, or if you are encumbered.
