Screampunk is one of those minor mish-mash forms of Setting Aesthetics that is definitely distinct, but it hasn't had enough examples to catch on as a distinct name just yet. Screampunk is the mash-up of Steampunk with Horror tropes, especially the Gothic Horror tradition which emerged from the same time period that gave us Steampunk in the first place. Often labeled as simply Dark Fantasy, Gaslamp Fantasy or Gothic Horror, Screampunk combines monsters, ghoulies and horror tropes with a prevalent abundance of Victoriana-themed culture and, especially, mad science.
The name comes from a GURPS splatbook, called GURPS Screampunk, which focuses on exploring the unique overlap of Gothic Horror and Steampunk tropes in your campaigns.
