The Pure, formerly known as the Star Scorpions, are a warband of Chaos Space Marines who are currently fucking over the Celestial Lions and the Emperor's Spears on the far side of the Great Rift.

History[edit | edit source]

The Egyptian-themed Star Scorpions were created as part of the 25th "Bastion" Founding near the end of the 40th Millennium and given the chapter number 888. Alongside the Celestial Lions and Emperor's Spears, they were assigned to watch over a remote region of Imperial space known as Elara's Veil, located near the galactic core. The three chapters were thus collectively known as the Adeptus Vaelarii. Things were okay at first, but soon the Scorpions' gene-seed tithes began to come out badly mutated, threatening the chapter's future. Before they could really come to grips with the issue, the chapter's fleet was swallowed up by the Warp and disappeared with every single one of the Scorpions aboard. They were officially designated as having been lost with all hands, and their number and colors (white and green) were recycled in the 26th Founding for the Mentors.

Unfortunately for everyone involved, the chapter had not actually been lost. When Abaddon tore the galaxy a new one at Cadia, the Star Scorpions were barfed back out into realspace, thoroughly corrupted by Chaos and in charge of a huge host of cultists, abhumans, and Chaos warbands known as the Exilarchy. They renamed themselves The Pure and set out to conquer Elara's Veil for themselves and wipe out their erstwhile brethren. The Spears and the Lions fought back as best they could, but with the Lions already crippled thanks to the Inquisition's shenanigans at Armageddon and the Cicatrix Maledictum between them and the rest of the Imperium, they slowly began to lose ground. It didn't help matters that, having few non-Astartes allies, the Exilarchy began to tailor their tactics around bogging down the elite squads of the Adeptus Vaelarii. By the time that Amadeus Kaius Incarius of the Mentors showed up to see what was going on, the Exilarchy had already conquered half the region, with no signs of slowing down. Chaos Lord Nar Kezar took a special interest in Incarius, since he was wearing the Scorpions' old colors and carrying their number, and took him prisoner to torture information out of him, though Incarius refused to give anything up. Nothing more is known about their current activities or allegiances; despite having been the 888th chapter, they do not appear to have specific ties to Khorne, and they seem to be looking out for themselves more than anything else, much like the Blood Gorgons.
