Warhammer Warbands are fan-made rules popular in 6th edition Warhammer Fantasy as a spiritual successor to Warhammer Skirmish and Mordheim Rules were downloadable on GW site as pdfs.

Rules[edit | edit source]

  • 20x20 and 25x25 models have a minimum unit size of 3 models, 25x50 2 models, 40x40+ are 1.
  • Small (1-199 points): No Rare, Special, Lords, Heroes above 75 points, War Machines, Chariots, Flyers, or magic items may be taken. Unless specifically allowed in the army, no Regiments Of Renown may be taken. Must have at least 2 core units. Undead do not need a spellcaster. A Unit Champion or Hero must be the Commander, functionally the General. Unit Champion Commanders must stay in their unit.
  • Large (200-500 points): As above plus the following. No more than 10 units overall. May have two special units, or one special and one rare. May have 1-2 Heroes as long as total points do not exceed 150 points. May have 1 Warmachine or Chariot model (not unit). May have 1 Flyer unit or Creature.

Each army also has its own specific rules on top of the above. Otherwise the game is the same as 7e.

  • Bretonnia: Knights only get the free upgrade if meeting the army book minimum unit size. They do not require a Battle Standard Bearer.
  • Hordes/Beasts Of Chaos: Warbands can never have more than one Spawn model. May include models from the unselected type (Beast/Mortal/Daemon) type. Horror units 5-9 strong may have 2 Flamers, 10+ up to 4. Warbands not lead by a Daemonic Commander may use a Dragon Ogre Shaggoth model as both their rare and special allotment but it cannot be promoted to a Champion.
  • Dark Elves: Use the White Dwarf #286 update.
  • High Elves: Intrigue At Court only happens if there is two Heroes. Pure Of Heart is not mandatory.
  • Dogs Of War: Paymaster is not mandatory. Regiments Of Renown are taken as in an army, and no other characters may be taken as the RoR one is the default Commander.
  • Ogre Kingdoms: Must have at least one unit of Bulls. Ogres have a minimum size of 1 regardless of base, Gnoblar 3. Groinbiters and Snarefingers may not be Commanders. Butchers and Hunters may not be Commanders. At 200+ points the Warmachine may be a Leadbelcher, Gnoblar Scraplauncher, or Hunter with Harpoon Launcher. In campaigns Maneater Commanders adopt Archtypes and recover like characters.
  • Orcs & Goblins: Common and Night Goblins only need to be 10 strong for Command. Night Goblin units 10-14 strong may have one Fanatic, 15-19 2 Fanatics, 20+ 3 Fanatics.
  • Tomb Kings: Commanders are both General and Heirophant. Tomb Princes and Liche Priests use Incantations normally. Icon Bearers and Unit Champion Commanders allow any unit with full Command to cast Incantations, Smiting/Urgency/Summoning only on themselves, as Bound Spells so long as the Command survives. Chariots are only special, and may be counted as a unit of 1-5 rather than by model.
  • Lizardmen: May choose from standard or Southlands army lists.
  • Skaven: Slaves and Clanrats only need to be 10 strong to qualify for Command and Weapons Teams. Mainstay applies, so long as Mainstay Clanrats are at least 10 strong. Warpfire Throwers, Ratling Guns, and Warpfire Cannons are Warmachines.
  • Empire: Detatchments use minimum Warband requirements.
  • Vampire Counts: The death of the Commander causes the army to collapse regardless of other characters.
  • Wood Elves: No Woodland Ambush. Wardancers, Alter Kindreds, and Bladesingers may not be Commanders. Wild Riders only get their free upgrade if they meet army book requirements.
  • Dwarfs: Dragon and Giant Slayers may not be Commanders.
