More of a workhorse than a work dog.

The M8 Light Armored Car, (Called the Greyhound by the Brits, Official US sources never called it that.) was a reconnaissance and infantry support vehicle operated by the Allies, principally the United States and Great Britain. In terms of on-road mobility there was nothing that could beat it, although it operated somewhat unreliable in off-road conditions and in forests where its large turn radius made it easy to get stuck between trees. However, it proved to be an effective support vehicle for advancing infantry and served as the basis of some Cold War IFVs.

IRL[edit]

"Road trip! Road trip! Road trip!"

The M8 Greyhound was originally designed as a tank destroyer, but it's armament of a single 37mm cannon and a single Machine Gun were soon found insuitable against german armor, and the vehicle was redesignated as a recon vehicle. After production bugs had been kinked out, the vehicle was set into production by the Ford Company.

The vehicle earned its reputation as being a ferocious and dangerous vehicle in the hands of the American operators. One unconfirmed story from the war tells of an M8 crew rushing an unaware Panther and shooting it up the ass, causing a fire in the engine and killing the tank. Against the IJA, who tended to use lighter armor, the vehicle proved excellent in jungle fighting as both an anti-infantry and anti-tank platform. The design was so decent that it survived after the Korean war.

The vehicle served as a basis of the AM8, which was a Columbian version with an M45 quad BMG turret strapped to the top of the vehicle, which is as awesome as it is derpy. It also served as the basis of the M8 Hellenic Army Armored Car and the M20 Armored car that served in the war as well.
