Medusan Immortal
Medusan Immortals were the elite Iron Hands breacher infantry during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.
Overview[edit]
For Iron Hands Legionaries who had failed their rigid standards and codes of battle, whether they were wounded or unable to cope, inducting themselves into the Immortals remained one course of action to redeem themselves. So in an oddity amongst elite formations, the Medusa Immortals weren't seen as a rank of promotion but one of penance.
The Immortals were the Legion's final chance at glory, deployed where the battle was fiercest and the risk of survival smallest. Armed principally as Breacher units and featuring a high level of cybernetic modifications, Immortals wore no symbol of their Clan Company or Legion, save its numeration and the death's head symbol. It was their lot to fight and die with a steadfast cold fury, marching relentlessly for redemption.
They were armoured in Mark III: Iron Armour and wielded Astartes Boltguns, Grav-Guns, Volkite Chargers, Chainswords, and Boarding Shields.
Crunch[edit]
On the Horus Heresy tabletop, they are Breachers with an extra attack and Leadership 10. They have Feel No Pain (5+) and Stubborn to make them extra tanky, but they also have Bitter Duty, so they cannot be joined by anyone other than Moritats. The squad can swap their Bolters for Chainswords, but remember that they also have Boarding Shields and so cannot claim the bonus for two weapons. They also have the option for Bayonets which they are not allowed to use, because models with Boarding Shields cannot make attacks with Two-handed weapons...
