Summary of Legion XXI

The Dubh Vigilate Legion were the XXI Legion of the original 30 Space Marine Legions. Their Primarch, Cathal S'gath, responsible for their split from the Imperium, is also responsible for saving the majority of it's members from any harm during the Hektor Heresy.

Legion Tactics

The Dubh Vigilate chapter is a skilled occupation force, with much of their tactics based upon their experiences during the Great Crusade. Trained as CQB specialists, Dubh Vigilates are deadly in urban environments, able to storm from building to building with startling speed. Their ability to crush rebellious populaces is also legendary, their combination of strict policing, spectacular military parades, and brutal witch hunts able to crush even the most rebellious of populaces.

Assaults by Dubh Vigilates are based around being fast, and being decisive. Deploying from Land Speeders, they use their superior training in close quarters combat as a shock tactic, moving in quickly right on top of enemy positions, and quickly crushing and overrunning their positions. In the event that they find themselves unable to break an enemy hardpoint, they rely on their speed to quickly outflank their foes, whilst breaking down those positions with artillery fire.

Due to a lack of materiel support after their split from the Imperium, the Dubh Vigilate often find themselves utilizing support from attached Imperial Guard and PDF units from occupied worlds. This has somewhat affected their tactics, forcing them to adopt a slightly less mobile method of combat due to the lack of mobility inherent in Artillery platforms.

Legion Equipment

After breaking off from the Imperium, Dubh Vigilate has been dealing with a serious supply issue. Whilst they were extremely well supplied in the days leading up to the Heresy, and much of their equipment was in excellent condition due to their units seeing somewhat limited combat, such stockpiles can only last for so long, and they have long since been forced to adapt other weapons for their usage, and have been required to steal what they otherwise cannot obtain.

Alongside their normal deployment of Land Speeder Storm units and Attack Bikes, Dubh Vigilate troops are also supported by a number of captured Imperial Guard vehicles, including a number of Medusa and Deathstrike artillery pieces, Hydra AA platforms, and are even believed to have a stock of Macharius tanks hidden away.

Dubh Vigilates hold to a proud tradition of honor and superstition, passed down for millennia. These beliefs, ultimately coming from the teachings of Cathal S'gath himself, are considered deeply sacred to members of the Legion. Based upon a complex code, it is a deeply held secret among Dubh Vigilates, and their successor chapters.
