Berzerker-Surgeon
Yes, believe it or not, by the World Eaters still have some members that are still sane enough to properly wield a surgical tool without going for the throat. These are Berzerker-Surgeons or Butcher-Surgeons, and they are still there to the modern times because someone has to deal with all that Butcher's Nails implantation procedures.
Overview[edit]
They operate across the galaxy, either working with different Chaos Lords, within a Warband or even with outside groups that are not a part of the Traitor Legion. The Berzerker-surgeons' skills are drawn from ten millennia of their experimentation, which has allowed them to hone a dizzying array of gory techniques to create new World Eaters. This includes accelerated recruit induction techniques, utilized during the Great Crusade, which are brutally enhanced with forbidden methods that were granted to the Berzerker-surgeons after the Horus Heresy's Drop Site Massacre.
They have also learned various...interesting practices regarding Daemonic pacts and the harnessing of the Warp which aid in creating various Roid-filled warriors who have no concept of fear, pain, or death. As the World Eaters' gene-seed has become horribly corrupted over the centuries, the Berzerker-surgeons now use those taken from other space marines to fulfill the traitor legion's needs. However, substantial work must be performed on the captured gene-seed before the Berzerker-surgeons can use it to create new World Eaters. Their skills are also utilized by warbands who expand their numbers using Khornate space marines who were not born of the Traitor Legion. These outsiders must also undergo the psycho-surgeries practiced by the Berzerker-surgeons - a process they see as a kind of apotheosis that brings them closer to the Big K.
In terms of equipment, Berzerker-Surgeons are typically armed with stuff similar to loyalist Apothecaries. This includes a Narthecium and a Servo-Arm equipped with surgical tools. For weapons, as World Eaters, these combat medics aren't slouches in combat and are armed with a close combat weapon such as a Power Axe or Chainaxe for example. For defense, it varies, but it seems that most of them wear some sort of Artificer Armour dating back from the Great Crusade era.
