Devourer (World Eaters)
This article is about something that is considered by the overpowering majority of /tg/ to be fail. Expect huge amounts of derp and rage, punctuated by /tg/ extracting humor from it. |
Devourers, those poor, poor Devourers. If you want an example of an Honour Guard more impotent and limped-dick than a Tau Ethereal Guard, than the Devourers from the World Eaters legion during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy is a good bet to start off with.
Why are they so useless?[edit]
To put things simply, it's because Angron fucking despises them and put them as the World Eater's equivalent of cheerleaders, unlike many other praetorian guards of other Primarchs.
Angron's disdain towards his own bodyguards stem from his eternal Butthurt of failing to die with his gladiatorial family back in Nuceria. So seeing what he perceives as interlopers trying to 'mimic/replace' his compatriots filled Angron with immense RAGE. Combine this with Angron's recklessness in combat and high friendly fire incidents from the Primarch (and keep in mind that this was before the Butcher's Nails really started to fuck with his mind- at first he could still understand why he might have needed them, but as time went on only the resentment remained), and you have a bodyguard system that was less 'bodyguard' and more 'animal handler'. As such, they were only assembled when Angron went into his bloody, retarded rampages. Devourers were therefore deployed NOT to protect their Primarch, but to protect fellow World Eaters from said Primarch.
Because of the fact that they spent more time restraining Angron and trying to keep up with him than they were butchering enemies, Angron and other World Eaters like considered the Devourers to be weak-willed pussies; being overly concerned for their Primarch who cared nothing for them. Indeed, the position came to be viewed as a dishonorable dead end and when Kharn was asked about joining them he simply burst out laughing at the absurdity of the idea.
It is highly likely that the Devourers were dissolved post-Heresy, given how useless they were. Although a former Devourer by the name of Tarugar later formed a warband called...well...the Devourers.
Equipment[edit]
Nevertheless, despite their impotence, Devourers being honour guards and all, did wore some heavy equipment, such as Cataphractii Pattern Terminator Armour, alongside CQC weapons such as a Chain Glaive, Chain Spear or a Chainaxe.
